I just found this on another blog:

http://download.nvid...IVBenchmark.zip

Its the offical bench mark program for Final Fantasy XIV. Its lowest setting is 720p (1280x720) and it's highest is 1080p (1980x1080). The program will run a character of your choice through the opening moments of the game. The file is 172mb to download and unzips to 335mb.

Im downloading right now, ill post a few images and comments later today, enjoy!

:onion113:

Edit by Eorzea:
If anyone is having problems running the benchmark program due to a missing .dll file, please make sure you are running the latest version of DirectX. You can use this download from Microsoft to update your DirectX.

E3 thread has been updated with this information, but feel free to discuss the benchmark program in more detail and post images/etc.

:msnwave:

I look forward to giving it a try after work today.

I really don't understand any of this bench mark stuff. Is this only for people who will be playing the PC version of the game? So that they can figure out resolutions and game settings for the final release? I'd appreciate it if someone could explain this please :)

What it is is a pre-compiled scene to which your computer will render so you can A. See what the game looks like pixel for pixel. B. Test for performance to get a basis for what kind of system you should have (PC) when the game comes out. C. Enjoy the beautiful game engine and detail of FFXIV. Basically it's here if you want to see how FFXIV looks in real time, or are interested in how well it will run.

Thank you for the description! I think I will pass on doing this myself, seeing that I will be getting the game for PlayStation 3. However I'll enjoy looking at everyone elses, and seeing whether or not there is much variation between them.

My results:
Low: 4000
High: 2786

It'd be nice if I could play it with high resolution. The ranking suggests that I will, but I'll have to see how performance plays out when I'm running the actual game.

I tested mine a few times and had different results (PC)

Window 7 Home Premium
AMD Phenom II x4
ATI HD 5800 Series

High settings: 3625 -3800 (elvaan) (fate telling me which race to play?)
High settings: 739 (mi'qote)
Low settings : 4285

Quite a diffenece in score with no differences PC wise. I would run it twice to be sure.

damn I didnt think my laptop was so weak...

Intel duo core 2.26ghz
Nvidia GeForce 9600 GS 1gb
4gb ddr2 ram

score(low)- 700ish (too depressed to write it down)
score(high)- My resolution is pegged at its max and I cant see the bottom so i dont know it :X

Maybe I should get a tower instead of this laptop...

The last game I played on my laptop that didnt run on high everything was Vanguard. I had EVERYTHING on low and all I could do on it was craft, as I didnt really have to move around.

I think new games are getting to the point were laptop tops that are a few years old are no longer fast enough.

hmmm, my laptop is barely a year old though ._. and was way above average when I bought it. I figured it out though, my graphics card was actually being underclocked. So I raised it slightly over what it should be and busted out a score of 1000! Not so bad I dont think, it ran at 15 fps minimum the whole way through.

Is that high or low setting? A steady 15fps is good. No idea what mine ran at.. will have to figure out how to tell. How did you?

Ah I didnt how old yours was - what I said was generic :) Still, it has always been my opinion that PC are better for games, otherwise why have PCs anymore if laptops can run everything? Never heard of a water cooled laptop :0 (funny mental image).

Yes, I have filled in my Avatar and info so I guess i am staying :)

I couldnt decide between Mi'qote and Elezen so I went with my default 'elf' type race.
