Yes, it's true! Final Fantasy XIV will be released on September 30, 2010!

The catch? That release date is for the PC version only. Even though Square Enix has done nothing but suggest a simultaneous release on both the PC and PS3, it seems the PS3 version will not be available until March, 2011!

Yes, it's unfortunate, but all we can do at this point is to hope they somehow manage to release it sooner.

PC Collector's Edition:
Price: $75 | £49
Release: September 22, 2010
Pre-Order: Purchase via Amazon

PC Standard Edition:
Price: $50 | £27
Release: September 30, 2010
Pre-Order: Purchase via Amazon

PS3:
Price: TBA
Release: March, 2011
Pre-Order: Purchase via Amazon

:onion19: guess im gonna have to do with the pc version.
Seems kinda fishy to me though... dont they usually release these games first in Japan?
Europe is usually the last place to release. On top of that beta hasnt even started yet and its already July, isnt september too soon?

I don't do PC gaming, so I have no choice but to wait an extra SIX MONTHS for the PS3 version. Not impressed. I was looking forward to starting my journey Beyond Vana'diel with everyone here at the same time, but now that's not going to happen.

As for the PC open Beta it's due to start sometime this month. I'm guessing sooner rather than later now that a release date has been set. The Alpha test has been going on for sometime now, so it's not as if testing will only have lasted 2 months.

I'm betting that the FFXIV PS3 beta will be announced at TGS.

Half a year.. that's insane. I always wanted to play FFXIV right from the start. In six months party set ups will be "cookie cutter", every mission and quest will become cataloged in extreme detail, and early crafters will have control of the market.

My PS3 and I just died a little on the inside.

Same. I'm guessing the forum is going to be split a little now...

...those playing from the start, and those playing six months later.

Those playing from the start can party up together at the beginning, and the PS3 owners could band together on the release in March.

I'm dissapointed :( FFXIV was easily my most anticipated game of 2010.

same here :onion120: ive been looking forward to this game on ps3 since last year. Still pretty skeptical about this though... alpha test and beta test wont have lasted 3 months and its already out in the streets if this info is true yet we have to wait 6 months after pc for ps3 release to come out? What made this mmo more anticipated than most is (besides its a FF) that it was the first mmorpg in ps3, why delay it so much?

~Edit~

Gamespot just posted something:

At the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this month, Square Enix showed off its upcoming massively multiplayer role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV. Today, the Japanese publisher dated the game, saying it would launch in North America on September 30 on the PC at a price point of $50. The PlayStation 3 version, which was on display at Sony's E3 2010 press conference, has not been given a release window beyond "2010," though it had been set for a simultaneous release with the PC edition.

I just registered to point out that there's a slight possibility that there was a mistake here. In an interview at E3, which was just two weeks ago, this was said...

Quote

Press: What are your plans for the worldwide launch of the game? Final Fantasy XI came out in the US and other territories a good deal after the Japanese version. I'm wondering if you're planning on a simultaneous worldwide release or, again, the other territories will have to wait a bit to play the game.

SE: Yes. At the launch it will be a worldwide simultaneous for the PS3 and Windows PC in all regions. We will have the same four languages that we had in FFXI. English, Japanese, German and French all released at the same time.

Of course, there's an equal chance for that to be a mistake as there is for this one, but I highly doubt that it's just them "changing their minds" in the course of two weeks. If there was going to be a six month delay, they'd at least have known before now that it wouldn't be simultaneous. And at least two sources claimed that "there is no set PS3 release date", although I find that strange since they're articles referring specifically to the same press release... I'm assuming those ones just overlooked that part of the press release, but some people have pointed out that "March 2011" is the end of the fiscal year, so it may be a meaningless placeholder.

Just wanted to get that out there to hopefully ease some of the rage... Since I will be the recipient of much in-person ranting from Hugbees once this gets out. :P

Thanks for registering to the forum, Socran! I hope you will be sticking with us? :)

This mistake that you point out:

Do you think he meant to say that the PS3 version will be launching simultaneously in all regions...but SEPERATE from the PC version?

September: Simultaneous launch for PC

March: Simultaneous launch for PS3

Hmm, but what about the Japanese version? I haven't read anything about a date for that.

EDIT: Hmm, FFXIII launched March this year. Maybe SE thought that two numbered games releasing in one year was too much. Maybe they are trying to maximise sales of XIII on consoles first, before introducing FFXIV.

I've got to say I was surprised when I logged on to the forum and the news hadn't been posted. I decided to seize the opportunity!

April fools day was two months ago, so I guess it's time for us to face the harsh reality.

The main site has been updated as well with pre order info, but it doesn't mention dates so I'm not sure about this one
