I want to be there from the start but i don't have a pc where i live now (my old one is at my parents house) and my laptop can barely play minesweeper -.- (ok, it's not that bad, but i hate the keyboard, the screen, the mousepad, the missing numblock... well, yeah, i hate laptops...)

It is down for £40.
Also some people on this forum here got into alpha and wrote about it, not reviews just forum chatter if anyone is bored enough:

EDIT: I found this quote that someone linked from E3 regarding the release of FFXIV
Press: What are your plans for the worldwide launch of the game? Final Fantasy XI came out in the US and other territories a good deal after the Japanese version. I'm wondering if you're planning on a simultaneous worldwide release or, again, the other territories will have to wait a bit to play the game.
SE: Yes. At the launch it will be a worldwide simultaneous for the PS3 and Windows PC in all regions. We will have the same four languages that we had in FFXI. English, Japanese, German and French all released at the same time.
How could they not have known this two weeks ago?

EDIT: Nevermind. Apparently my PC at work is like, haunted or something... I pulled up a different site with Internet Explorer as opposed to FireFox, from the same URL. I don't know how... The whole site is different, and the About section states different things. *sigh*

No idea, I'm just hoping that the 2011 thing was a bad mistake or something. I mean I wouldn't care at all if it was 2011 release for all platforms, but the fact that we will be 6 months behind PC players just ruins the game for me.
6 months is a lifetime in an MMO, and everything will be cleared, the economy will probably be in shambles, and so much more.
I thought SE learned their lesson with FFXI when they released it in America after Japan, the game was already established with an expansion out! I wish they would have just delayed the PC version further, then they could include even more for the release plus have it be fair for both PS3 and PC.
Come to think of it, the PS2 version of FFXI was released after the PC too, but I'm not sure if they were both planned from the start. the 360 version was just a tactic to get more money which IMO failed, no one who had a 360 wanted to play a MMO.
Like I said, I'm waiting for an interview that explains or even denies the PS3 release date.
EDIT: This delay better not freaking be something completely stupid like trophies or the 3D effect. I will flip my @#$% more than I already have if I hear anything like this.

A simultaneous release ON PC for diverse countries has not been done before because it was too difficult. A simultaneous release cross platform all over the world? That's still a dream. They'll do it one day, but this is not the day. Be disappointed that is your right, but do understand they are already doing a feat. What would have been better? A cross platform release in one country with further international integration months later ? Or a PC only release for every eligible country for all languages and on the Ps3 later on?
To me their reasoning is clear. And either way someone would have been unhappy. I'm sad something had to go, but I've seen enough bad MMO releases to be happy with this one. ;D And we're not even there yet, come launch and server instability, little bugs missed and other problems there's going to be a lot more belly aching to come. (didn't they test this stuff? Why aren't they prepared..? lol...)

It is a very big let down to be honest.
Edit:
I hope they come with a good explanation for this? :s

I guess this is one good thing about the later launch. Hopefully it won't make you download a HUGE patch with all of the fixes and updates! It will probably take forever.

I know, it's not fair that they did this. Maybe they were afraid of the media surrounding them...

Tell me about it! When I was watching E3 last year and this game was announced I was like OMG. You say you've never played an MMO from the beginning...well, I've never played one at all. I was so looking forward to starting one! I still am looking forward to it, of course. Just dissapointed that I, and other PS3 owners, have to wait longer.

Me too! The FFXIII Collectors Edition wasn't worth the money at all, but I would pay for this!

For the ones that dont remember and the ones that dont know about it, it was hell lol. The areas were so crowded that parties had to fight eachother to claim mobs to fight. It took several hours to level up just because there wasnt enough mobs to fight. I know SE learned something about that and thats maybe one of the reasons why they decided not to have a cross platform simultaneous release because that experience could kill the game for a few players. Having a little delay on the PS3 release could help not to have some areas overcrowded.
Just wanted to point that out, id love to start from day 1 with my ps3 but meh, maybe its not such a bad thing after all. Also the ones talking about the economy, six months is not that much and i think that the first month is going to be chaotic with really weird pricing, thats good news for the one selling but for the ones buying not.
On a side note i was thinking that by "simultaneous worldwide release for PS3 and PC" SE could have meant:
1) PS3 AND PC worldwide release
2) Simultaneous PC release on all regions, and a simultaneous PS3 release on all regions, not necesarely releasing PC and PS3 on the same date.
we already know that they didnt mean 1 so, was just our fault for missinterpretate that?
