Hello I wanted to know what people think of okinawa japan or anything that would help me get a visual of it. I was thinking about putting the port there as one of my locations on my wishlist to be stationed for the Navy. I know alot of people told me they liked being stationed in japan but I know nothing about it. So please tell me anything you think I might find interesting about living there.

I only know a few things... The people down there are completely different then the mainland, and most of them speak english. Also almost every place off the base will except dollars within a certain range. And the Prime Minister of Japan just recently resigned for not being able to shut down the base. Other then that I cant really tell you much more

Well that already made me feel alot better about going because I do not know japanese. I do wonder though about why the minister would try to shut down the base. I believe it is one of the bigged american navy ports in japan and tryen to shut down would not just fly over.

Naha is an awesome city. There are plenty of clubs, karaoke bars, restaurants, arcades, skate parks, and so much more! The monorail system they have in place there is also really nice and easy to figure out. Once you get it down you can also take the local buses to places. Most of the taxi's (Honcho's it doesn't mean taxi it basically means boss it is what everyone calls the taxi drivers out there) that operate off base can't go on base so it is a good idea to get the phone number for an on base taxi service. There is a shuttle service called the Green Line that will take you from base to base for free.
Gate 2 street is located off of Kadena AFB and it houses the most popular clubs and bars.
Jan Jans (might be spelled wrong) is in American Village right outside Camp Foster. It is all you can eat all you can drink for roughly $30. Hokka Hokka Tei is rather inexpensive and is REALLY good. They are basically a Japanese fast food place. CURRY HOUSE CoCo ICHIBANYA is freaking addicting! I personally want to go back to Okinawa just to eat there. If you have never tried Japanese style Curry before you have got to go there!
Umm...that is all I can really think of off of the top of my head so if you have any other questions just hit me up I will be glad to answer. I was stationed out there for two years on Camp Kinser.
