A bit cliché, I know, but let's do it anyway!

Who are your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why? No more than five, please.

Be sure to EXPLAIN your choices!

Back in the day, I was a big Cloud and Squall fan.. Not so much anymore. (I haven't played much of VI or IX and never played V, so I won't include those in my thought process)

Hm.. strangely enough, I haven't really thought recently about what FF characters I even like.. A lot of them feel a little stereotypical for a JRPG. I'm going to make a list on the fly right now.

- Balthier FFXII - coolest FF character ever perhaps? He's not very feminine like so many others, but he sure is a smooth operator.

- Auron FFX - The poise of a an experienced mentor.. mysterious, but someone you could easily trust.

- Cid FFVII - Maybe it's that he's a little older and rough around the edges, but has just as much or more energy for action than your main characters.. Ah, he's like Popeye isn't he? I've also always loved his airship and theme song.

- Kain FFIV - Yeh, he's a bit stereotypical too.. But a levelheaded warrior is always an attractive type.. Plus the dragoon outfit and abilities are very cool.. Also, him being a rival of sorts to Cecil is
an interesting relationship. This sort of rivalry, seems less common than the other FF setup (one cool guy and a various bunch of others of different personality types)

- Wakka FFX - He's got a friendly personality, but still is a bit uncertain of himself and others.. He's like a big brother to Tidus. He doesn't have an overwhelming presence, but he's a likable guy.

No women? Well I used to be a Tifa fanatic. Selphie is cute, but that's about it. I like Rinoa, but as with the other FFVIII characters, she isn't very interesting.

Okay, a quick list for the gals in no particular order.. Fran, Lulu, Yuna, Rinoa, Rydia (she seems more interesting than your average FF girl.. I still haven't finished the game yet, so I'm not sure what becomes of her)

I don't think I really have that many favourites...

FF8 was my first Final Fantasy, the second game for my Playstation. I was so excited. And then Quistis Trepe showed up. Her cg was amazing and I just thought she was beautiful. And then it turned out she was smart (though not smart enough to avoid initially falling for emo-boy Squall) and used a whip. I was a Trepie after that. I played Triple Triad just to get her card. Which I won. Then consequently lost and nearly cried. <_<;;

Otherwise... the only other character that even comes close (which really isn't close at all) is Cpt. Basch from FFXII. I still haven't beaten that game. And the draw for him was just that I thought he was quite a good looking male character who was actually over the age of 25. And no goofy qualities. I quite enjoyed Basch. He's no Quistis though.

I draw for gil. I draw for money. I wanna do art trades too~! Mari-Bear on deviantArt

Basch FFXII - Everyone loves Balthier (while he was pretty awesome) I gotta say basch. The dude was so bad ass that his country named him a traitor and he still stuck to his story. It was the truth and he stuck with it. He never caved. That is the kind of guy I want to be. Plus he had the best lines in FFXII (see signature).

Rydia
She overcame the destruction of her home and the death of her family and friends to mature into a hero. She's the very first Summoner I was exposed to and one of the main reasons why I love the Final Fantasy series so much. Rydia's Eidolons had me salivating for more Final Fantasy for years to come. Titan, Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh, Odin, Leviathan, and Bahamut were all under her command on the SNES.

Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, painful rectal itch, hallucination, and death.
Summoning is not for everyone. Consult your doctor before use.

Yeah Rydia was pretty smokin' when she became an adult. And I don't even like the color green!

But man, she put Tellah to shame when her magic got better. She's by far my favorite mage on FFIV. Not to mention her maturity in seeing past Cecil's mistake in destroying her town. Definitely one of the top characters to a pretty awesome cast in FFIV.

Here's a few more I thought of and wanted to post on.

Stepping outside the main series, Ramza and Delita from FFT are pretty awesome. Delita was one of the coolest antagonists in any game. He wasn't all bad. A forum I was reading once described Delita as just looking out for himself. He was on his own team and wasn't afraid to let everyone know when the time came. All this stuff happened to him that just made him snap and realize he has to watch out for himself. Ramza on the other hand did not let the bad stuff get to him. He stayed true to his standards. These days most people feel that's a boring hero. But I think they're so rare in story telling lately that I appreciate them more.

For female roles, I'll have to say Terra and Celes. I love Ashe (if you couldn't tell FFXII is my favorite) but she didn't hit me as hard in her struggle as Terra and Celes did. I grew up with these characters, they are partly what taught me how strong women can really be. It's silly, because they are just fictional characters. But it's no different than being blown away by exceptional characters in a book or movie to me.

Celes was a heartbreak of a character falling for Locke and then losing him to his 'dead' x-girlfriend and then betraying him and then sacrificing herself for him. Then having to forgive him for not believing in her and forgive herself for betraying his loyalty. "Oy-vay"

Rosa, lol, I know but she so innocent and clueless. She's fearless when the people she loves are in harms way but helpless when it's her own life in-stake. Plus she gets to bang Cecil every night. Who I totally think was the better choice between Kain and Cecil. Kain is a mess.

Which is why he makes the list. Kain is another tragic character. Sworn into this knighthood of the Dragoon which to me always felt like he was forced to do. And throughout the game you couldn't tell if it he was in love with Rosa, trying to force her to fall in-love with him or trying to pressure Cecil into admitting that he didn't really love Rosa and that he had feelings for someone else... ;D I'll let you draw your own conclusion. *cough* Brokeback *cough*

Basch ummm mostly because he's pretty to look at and years inside a prison did wonders for his abs.

Finally, Maduin, Terra's father from FFVI. He was always my favorite Esper to call upon. He gave up his life to protect Terra. Reason enough to be on the list.

My choices mostly came down to hott guys and strong women.
