I actually haven't watched this. I read The Vampire Diaries when I was in 8th grade (so, like 16 or so years ago) and I saw that they started really promoting them again when Twilight got popular. I'm afraid to watch the show. I'm afraid of what they've done to it. Besides, I'm not really into romance/soap operas, which is why I didn't like True Blood, so I've been staying away for that reason too.
I know a lot of people like it though. I have some friends who are quite obsessed. Have you read the books? Do you know if they're following the storyline very closely or if it's just a loosely-based sort of thing?

Mehh i have always loved Vampire intrigues, since i was very young. Used to read romances and folklore books, but... the most fun and exciting to read came all from Anne Rice, The Vampire Chronicals. And i say read and not watch a movie made in Hollywood because a book was interesting.
The Twilight books were also nice to read, specially after the first one. But i have watched the Vampire Diaries a few times, and well... not really my thing.
One of the books i loved the most from Anne Rice from the Vampire Chronicals was "Merrick". Really, if you did not read something from her, just do it

Nah i havent read the books didnt know it was based on a book i may have to read them. and i streamed the first show and watched the second ep in series2 last nite but have to wait for the rest i dont want to wait i want to watch them all now
