Hard to believe its launch day for the Collectors Edition after all this time. I am planning on building a new computer specifically for FFXIV and would like to know what performance I can expect from this build. I know that there are alot of questions about this game as it was just released but any information/educated guesses would help alot. I got this suggested build from: http://www.build-gam...p-computer.html

Motherboard:
Asus M4A785TD-V Evo ($100)
CPU:
AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.2 GHz ($90)
RAM:
Corsair XMS3 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM ($85)
Video Card:
Diamond Radeon HD 5670 1024MB ($130)
Hard Drive:
Western Digital Caviar Black 750 GB ($70)
DVD Burner:
LG GH22NS50R DVDRW Drive ($25)
Case:
Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Mid Tower Case ($35)
Power Supply:
Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450-Watt ($55)

TOTAL COST: $590 (USD)

Needless to say I am on a budget but I am planning on upgrading the cpu to maybe an i7 2.8ghz(as per the recommended specs). Any idea on what type of performace I can expect? I am hoping to be able to enjoy the game with a steady 40+ framerate with all the settings cranked up but I have little idea as to what to expect. Any help is greatly appreciated as always.

Hope to see you all in the game soon.

In my untutored opinion your video might be a bit low. I can appreciate your budget, but you may consider a 5700 series, if not a 5800 if you wish to 'crank up the graphics'. The game will run, but several members here have a 5850, with the same ram, and a slightly better processor (X4, 3.2ghz), (I'm one of them) and the game runs very well. Not on maximum graphics though. So if you want to max it out, your going to have to ignore your budget. either a 5900 (I believe they are out? I'm not up to date on video cards) or a pair of 5800s will do you.

Thanks for the reply. Just to check what kind of budget would I need to get this looking and playing at its best?
Would this build be considered borderline to get ffxiv to play or would it be halfway decent and playble in your opinion? Given how mmo's like to change over the years I'd hate to sink the money only to realize a year down the road that I would need an upgrade just to keep playing the game.

I would consider that just playable. Like I said, I have a 5850, and I'm sitting at about 2/3 graphics (which is still amazing) and a quad core processor. There is no real need to dump money into a 5900 or a pair of 5870s, as the game quality wouldn't increase enough to warrant the 600-800 dollars (or whatever it is). A 5850 will run.. what 200? I forget, its been a while. With a bigger card, (and also consider getting a better processor) you'll probably need a new power source as well.

If you can wait until bear gets on, or PM him for details. He knows 100 times more about this than I do. His name is armyofbear136.
