Hey Guys, just thought I'd put together somne observation on the Blacksmithing Process so far. It is my main class in which I have out leveled even my War classess blacksmithing. At Rank 12 I am by no means a powerhouse or the final expert, nor is this intended to be a theory crafted optimised guide.

It is a simple stategy to put you in a great place to start Blacksmithing. Of particular use to those who have yet to enter Eorzea and are thinking of taking hammer to steel.

It is my intention to add to this guide as I continue my journey and update it what what I do.

What this gide is NOT is a hand holding affair where I tell you to get 'x' or ';y' mats to get your skill ups.

Anyway, on to business.

Preparation

Anyone looking to be a BLA, you will need one thing in abundance above all else.

Fire Crystals

These are obtained mostly throguh mobs. Beetles and other insects have been a good source for me. Particulalry Blazer Beetles in the region around Ul'dah. I have not yet confirmed this, but around Gridania Fireflies are also worth farming which I guess makes sense.

The second thing you need is Copper and tin. 1 tin to three copper to be exact. This will allow you to make Bronze Nuggets and they are central to everything up to rank 15 or so.

So Recipie 1 - Bronze Nuggets x 12-

1 Tin Ore
3 Copper Ore
1 Fire Crystal

Spam this as much as possible. I would not reccomened using the 4 Copper ore recipie which gives you Brass Nuggets. These are used for Goldsmiths and if there is a market for them, you can try to sell them off. For your own devices though, Bronze is far more useful,

Your Second Recipie is -Bronze ingot-

5 x Bronze Nuggets
8 x Fire shards

Both these recipies will provide you with skill ups well into rank 10. Of course every Local leve hould be taken as Blacksmithing if you wish to further that the most.

Anyway, that should be enough to get started and I will continue to add to this over time. Feel free to leave comments, questions or your own expertise ^^

Just to be noted, Blacksmithing is one of the hardest to level right now because the next level hammer requires a level 21 Weaving material :( you will start to have difficulty around 12 or 13 with recipes that give pretty bad experience. So don't get frustrated if you think it is you!
The amount of fun you have with a slinky is proportional to the amount of stairs you have.
Given an escalator, slinkys will give you infinite fun!

I write this with the current market on Rabanastre it may differ with your servers.

As you hit 12 (or even 10) I would recommend saving the 20k to purchase an Undyed Canvas from a local Weaver (Its roughly a Rank 24 or so Recipe) to make the Birdsbeak Hammer if you can fashion the head. I personally kept chunking out Bronze Nuggets till Rank 11 with BSM Local leves inbetween.

11-15

Bronze Fish Hook / Bronze Nails

14-21

Iron Nuggets (I'd recommend trying to churn out as much of this as possible)

21-31

Iron Needle (NPCs for 517 gil for NQ)

26-34

Iron Awls (NPCs for ~2,500, but due to the 3 nugget requirement not the best mat per SP available but its a variety to the Iron Needle Recipe)

Mixing these with BSM Local leves alleviate some of the Inv. problems you'll begin to face unless BSM is the only thing you're Ranking up.

Brass is 1 zinc, 3 copper. 4 copper results in copper.

Alteration after more experience with 30s BSM:

Though you can continue Iron Awls post 33 you can switch to Iron Swallowtail Arrowheads or attempt Iron Ornamental Hammerheads.
