At first, crafting seems like such a fun and exciting process. Completely different from FFXI (in a good way)! I wonder, though, if the appeal will soon wear off? I ask simply due to the amount of time it takes to level up. The first 10 levels or so aren't that bad, but from what I've heard it starts to take a LOT of time to progress after that. More time, in fact, than combat jobs.

As someone who would like to dabble in many different things, it seems as if I have a LOT of crafting ahead of me.

It would really help if there was a REPEAT button/option. For example, when doing a local leve I am forced to choose "Requested Items" over and over and over again, confirm the recipe, etc. It's quite tedious.

I agree I think SE needs to keep working on the UI. I remember reading a review of the game and the individual pointed out SE needed to remove alot of the screens as you seem to have to confirm what you want to craft 3 times lol. I am sure they will work on it and as players we should send helpfull sugestions their way if there is a way to do it.

Currently I just do my crafting leves more as a way to buff my phy level and I hope that in the future it wont be so tedious and at least I have leveled them a little so I will be ready to jump in and craft like crazy lol.

If they could put more power in the hands of the crafter instead of random crap happening, it will never get old. at level 15 you get a second ability, and at 20 you start getting training.

I think the problem is the crap that is 10-15. Even geared out with craftsmanship+ and a rank 8 tool my armorer often fails crafts that give an average 250 exp. Grinding really isn't all that fun when you break 1/3 of the synths because of bad luck :( I hope the level 15 ability is awesome
The amount of fun you have with a slinky is proportional to the amount of stairs you have.
Given an escalator, slinkys will give you infinite fun!

As more recipies are added crafting for skill ups will become easier.

Remember this is a new game and they are handling it in a very wise manner imo. They are using a rolling release, just like in FFXI. Instead of everything smack bang open at the start they slowly open up areas, recipes and quests as they maintain stability of the basics and like a flower opening to the rain it will blossom into the 'full featured' game evryone wants.

Whats the rush anyway? Just do your locals and convert your primary sources into refined items and bank them for the awesomeness of the efficient crafting in later levels.

I'b be surprised if you could sustain lengthy crafting session beyond the leves without adventuring out for your crystals. Which would mean the alternative is the over inflsted market prices.

At least in Blacksmithing I need fire Crystals to create my basic level refined item from whence all other items are made

I think that crafting will maintain its appeal for a good while. I just do local leves whenever I'm bored, which hasn't been at all (I think I did 1 set). So for me it will be new and shiny for quite a while.

Indeed it is very difficult to sustain you craft. We have a bit of a trade system going on with the LS in Rabanastre to alleviate this somewhat, but even then most people still have to take breaks to go farm certain types of shards.

As to prices: They really aren't that bad, you just have to be willing to shop around. If you find someone named 'Shardzzz' or something silly like that, the will probably have many shards, but at 100-150g a piece. If you explore every retainer in the market wards (takes a while) you can find some really good deals. Last night I spent about 40k, and got 46 fire crystals, over 50 Iron sand, a handful of water crystals, and some humus.

Of course some people have stupidly inflated prices, or just plan stupid prices, but there are so many retainers that you can find almost everything you are looking for (except canvas).
Actions speak louder than words.

I have to say. I have found that I have stopped crafting. I think it is because it is easier and faster to level then battle class even though I was taking battle, fieldcraft and local leves at the same time.

I actually enjoy the crafting in this version, granted the redundant confirmations could be streamlined. Personally the feeling of being able to craft something for others and have them be able to use it will never wear off for me. I actually enjoy the difficulty they've introduced into crafting making it more of a job as its meant to be in this game instead of the average character add-on as it was in FFXI.

While grinding has been a rush while I'm on leave as everyone knows I'm not in a rush to craft specific things since I feel its all in good time. I'm extremely grateful for the support with the materials and shards/crystals people that venture out have been able to supply me with. Given the outlook and you can bash me for it if you want. That is how I see SE having to make this where the crafters can rely on the adventurers to support them and vice versa. My apologies I've gone off topic lol. Overall granted the breaks are irritating but that is just how it is you pick up and drive on. Also keep in mind crafting gives quite a bit of experience per synth (I've received upwards of 1800 for a recipe ranked 3-4 times my current rank), in my honest opinion if they make crafting easier I hope that they also scale the exp earned accordingly or it won't be fair to those that prefer to fight instead of craft.

Personally I do not like it when crafter rely too heavily on other crafters. I can barely make anything (as a weaver) without a smithy and a leatherworker.

PS Love these sigs!

Instead of a heavy reliance, think of it as a give and take relationship. There are things that weavers can't make without other classes, and there are things that other classes can't make without a weaver. This kind of thing has potential for long lasting bonds.
