Haha, that is pretty funny! Glad to see Square Enix has a sense of humour.

I get a kick out of it but it also bugs me that they even wrote that. It makes the game into a joke. I find that extremely lazy, uninspired and insulting to a degree. This is the kind of stuff I see that lets me know how little the people who made this game cared when they made it.. They mocked on of the most infamous mmo characters to ever be created in their own game. As if that wasn't enough they added the XxX's to the names, killing any sense of immersion by making you think of players who name their characters like that.. Ug.. Is this game even salvageable anymore? idk..
With stuff like that constantly popping up, it just kills me little by little.

Ugh... whaaa? Sephiroth was a very popular RPG villain which is why many chose to name their characters after him. Obviously you couldn't use "Sephiroth" so all made intentional alterations to the name and SquareEnix picked up on that and made a light hearted joke about in their game... I'm pretty sure this constitutes as an "Easter Egg" no?

How does a sense of humour make them lazy, uninspired and insulting? I don't understand why you believe that one line of dialog from an NPC could push the game over the line of salvageability.

I'm can't play the game until PS3 launch so I guess I'm missing something fundamental here...

Anyhoo... As you were~

Have to agree with Val on this one. I don't see how a bit of humor is in any way lazy, uninspired or insulting. There are quite a lot of similar references to other Final Fantasy titles (and pop culture in general) within the game but I don't find these things to break any sense of immersion.

To each his/her own, however.

Yea, I wouldn't say it's insulting at all! They're just making reference to a popular character in their most popular game. FFIX gives reference to Cloud in the weapons shop in Alexandria, "I used to know a guy with spiky hair who carried a sword just like that".

Eh to each their own then. Sephiroth is dead though, has been dead for a very long time. Cloud is fading into memory. Let it go already I say. Stuff takes me out of the game when I'm playing. However the guys who mention cloud as a spikey haired guy in Alex had the right to IMO. They were linked to that team. These guys in FFXIV have no right to, they can't even make a decent game. Sephiroth and Cloud were their babies on the 9 team. FFXIV's team had nothing to do with it what so ever. Want to gloat over a past success, have a past success first I say.

That spikey comment at least sounds funny. The xxSephirothXX and all that says "someone typed this name into a game because a million other people already used it when they were making their lame character" That takes me out of the story and into the world of pc noobs using old FF names. I don't want to think about pc noobs when I'm trying to be immersed. At least the spikey haired comment kept me in the game and in the lore of the game, the history of the actual game. You see the difference? There is a very clear difference.
