Hi guys

Do you think the job Summoner will be back?

If it did come back what Avatars(Summons) would you like to see?

My personal favourite was Fenrir and would love to see him in FFXIV.

I know they are basing it on what weapon you are holding but i hope they do integrate Summoner in.

HOLY YES.

All I want is more Summoner. I finally got all my summons in FFXI at lvl 20 with the help of several shell 75's and then a couple weeks later I quit. Great use of time. Anyways if there's no SMN in FFXIV I may go on a baby punching tangent.

As far as Avatars go I'd LIKE everything that was in FFXI, but more specifically Carbuncle, Fenrir, and Diabolos. In addition I hope they put in Odin as a special treat and maybe a free avatar like Carbuncle with Mitts and Light staff but something that doesn't require gear and does little to no damage, just as a little companion lol.

I would like to see Summoner return but have the avatars cost no MP. FFXI had the first incarnation of Summoner where the avatars drained your MP when they were out, to my knowledge, and I would like to see that gone. I can see avatar abilities draining your mana to keep it balanced, but I want to see the avatars not drain your mana this time around. Being a melee class didn't have an energy source that was being drained just for Auto-attacking, I didn't really see why it was needed for summoner, since we had no other means of damage, and no other abilities in general.

As for avatars, highly unlikely but I would love to see Anima... <3

i hate to be blunt but that's rediculous. a summoner could not have free avatars as it is COMPLETELY unbalanced. To have someone fight for you, and take all the damage you yourself are unable to. When your avatar dies, you dont die. There's got to be a balance for that, especially in soloing. If your avatar was free you could summon avatar after avatar after avatar and solo the whole country dead. Every SMN who solos runs away when their summon is about to die in order to summon a second one. If mana didnt drain, SMN would be unstoppable.

Maybe you didn't play any other class besides Summoner in FFXI, but in balista, the summoner usually dies. It is not unbalanced because our avatars have one minute cool downs between abilities, not to mention the blood pacts themselves cost about 2/10 our mana pool that is already being leeched from by our avatars.

You want to know what is unbalanced? Black mage sleep > nuke > sleep or red mages ability so solo things that an entire group of people wipe to.

It honestly doesn't sound like you have played summoner very much. Asking for free avatars is not asking much if all they can do is auto attack and use a damaging/ buff ability every 60 seconds, while we have no abilities what so ever besides those that come from our sub job.

Edit: How is it fair that we stand back while our avatars take all the damage? Because if we run OOM or our avatar dies, we are completely useless in every way shape and form, in PvP, if our avatar dies, all an enemy has to do to interrupt us from recasting an avatar is hit us once, or use a stun. Not to mention if you are smart you would just kill the summoner since they have paper armor and close to no hit points.

Fair enough. I suppose free summons would be well worth it, in fact I kinda feel like you're right in that if the summoner does nothing and needs summons to fight for him/her it shouldnt cost anything extra that other classes dont pay for. Furthermore I feel the smn should have more def, they had the least in the whole game and should at least be able to survive a hit or two from a IT or another player. Maybe SS? Or an exlusive ability like that mithra in the video with the bubble shield. Something to keep the smn going.

Heavier armor would be cool or like an ability from Aion's Spiritmaster, a -temporary- buff that sends all damage taken by the Summoner to the Avatar. I wouldn't mind either seeing some ability to heal the Avatar.

As much as it sucks not having any personal abilities though, I do like it because that is the Summoner style, because if we got any abilities, they would have to subtract from the Avatar to make it even. And that would feel more like a Warlock from WoW, which I do not want, I like being weak while the Avatar is strong.

Absolutely. But something sweet like a 10 second invincibility with a 5 minute cool down would help especially in recasts or similar to the aion's spiritmaster thing you referenced but with 100% spell interruption protection at least. Or even a run speed boost ability, something besides just being such a flimsy paperweight.

I don't know. At this point it's very vague how they'll be doing the jobs. Infact, I still don't fully understand the system.

However, I really hope SMN is. That was a fun job, especially with other Avatars.

Concerning summoner, it said it will not be the same as in FFXI. I imagine it won't be a job anymore, but you might, in a story mission, fight alongside an NPC summoner.. or perhaps against one?

That'd be terrible. They HAVE to have SMN man all I dreamt of was being SMN and now SMN is the only reason I keep playing FFXI.

Yes, I have to say I would be really disappointed if they didn't have a Summoner in some shape or form, it's really a staple of the FF series... But then again, they didn't really say we wouldn't get Summoner, they just said it didn't exist in the game at the moment, and if it did, it would be implemented differently. They did say though that there are currently Summons.

If you remember too, SMN wasn't in the original FFXI either. It was in the Rise of the Zilart expansion, or an update after the initial release... I can't remember. I do remember though, that it was added extra after it was released in Japan.

Oh, that reminds me of FFXIV's worlwide release. That really makes me giddy.

I'm not quite sure when Summoner was added because when FFXI came to the US it came with the Zilart expansion, since it was already out in Japan for a while. RotZ came with Samurai, Ninja, and Dragoon. But it did include the new elemental avatars for the Summoner class. Either way, late or not, I will just be happy as long as they introduce a Summoner type class eventually.

I'm expecting Square to focus even more on expansions this time around. Even the way they've described the world in the game is as if it will slowly open up to us over time.
