Say... they did say something about Chocobos being used in a different way..... Could it be that they may have something to do with a possible Discipline of the Land?

I hope that information on the site, about Aldgoats being tamed and broken in before their second year isn't just a detail to liven up the world, but something we can actually partake in.

haha... nooooo I think 'Chocobos being used in a different way' is code for 'make them function just like WoW'. Not that anything's wrong with that; in fact if SE has any marketing strategy they're just gonna take everything that made WoW work as a SP experience and bring it to FF. Look at the quest cards for example. Best of WoW + best of FFXI = FFXIV = best MMO. We won't know exactly how FFXIV will stand compared to WoW and it's upcoming Cataclysm expansion, but if SE can pull it off right we'll certainly see the WoW crowd siphon into FFXIV. Either way I'm just jonesing for some Beta action; between this and Starcraft II I might just explode.

wait... what? chocobos =/= summoner?

I'm confused...

I highly doubt that Summoners will be a part of the discipline land. I think this focus on how many jobs they're going to have is a bit senseless. For right now I think we are just seeing the general aspects of the disciplines.

I was on the tangent of domestication of animals..

Though it wouldn't be weird to be on the topic of Summons with Chocobos. In this game, the summons seem to be Gods of Eorzea, so Chocobo probably isn't one of them

it would be neat if the adapted the idea of taking a quest to become summoner. like yuna had to quest around the world to get each edilon....that would be neat. but just make it more adaptable with thte game and fit in with the story line.
Violence is not the ONLY solution, but it is a solution!

They had that in FFXI in some sense, not so much as it being purely the story line of it though.

I feel like, in this game, the avatars may be more like a spell. I'm not sure, they haven't given us enough info. However, in FFXI summoners didn't appear till a year and a half later. So that's something to keep in mind.

That's true.
And XIV is going to be bigger, more ambitious, than XI.. Even if there's no summoner class, there will be something similar to capture the interests of those hoping for such a thing.

Summons have always been used since they were introduced, so I know we'll see something. How it will be incorporated is still up in the air. I really think they are waiting with pet classes in general because of the fact that they are so hard to really implement. SE really tries to keep it an equal playing field, which they can't do as easily with pet classes. I mean even now, in FFXI they are finally showing the true potential of bst, and pup. Summoner is still struggling to some extent.

I think we'll see summons in two settings like we did in FFXI, we'll see some in missions, and cutscene's, and others will be our guides through the world, perhaps even have domains we can ask their permission to quest through. I'm sure at some point we'll get to summon them, how we'll do it... I'm unsure of.

the summoner itself i dont think will vary to much from FFXI they will have a collection of avatars to summon have the lowest defense but the the highest MP in the game. the avatar themselves will be updated a lot giving them more functions to do. unlike other games FFXI you summon the most powerful beasts and deities so it is natural the the user does nothing but channel power into them to keep them on the field. i also belive that the summoner wont come out till the first expansion along side a few other loved classes. to go along with the summoners weak body a weak weapon would be fitting like a book.
Yoohohohohoo!

I myself am hoping they do not bring the summoner job back . And before you all flame me for saying so , at least let me state my case

The reason i joined FFXI was simply for the summoner class , it looked fun , and of course , you get giant shineyz that follow you around and blow [expletive] up. ...Can i say that in here? Anyways , this was not the case once i finally leveled my RDM and unlocked Summoner. No instead i had a small rabitt rat thing (which i learned to love and hate) follow me around mainly to be a sacrificial lamb for my overbearing fights. However i did unlock the other avatars. My only problem with this is that until or unless you could somehow withstand capping out of job , you were next to useless. A sub par white mage with low DD capabilities. This is NOT what summoner once was in previous games. Yes i understand that jobs are supposed to be balanced and all , but hey at least throw us a bone here . Summoners were good for there 2 hours , and other than that , their capabilites were not where they should have been in my opinion. SE in a way destroyed the job , and for this reason i hope they either...

A.) Do not bring it back at all and simply incorporate the avatars in the main story line

or

B.) Correct the job into what it is should be portrayed as

Any constructive points of view are always appreciated.

I sure hope they include summoner. I know all of the classes haven't been announced yet, and I can only hope we see Summoner at launch.
