In vol. 455 of Dengeki PlayStation magazine, it was revealed that crafters will be offered a variety of equipment customization options.

As summarized by ZAM:
"Crafters will have ... unique abilities, such as being able to add their own colors or patterns to the equipment they make. It is also possible that shop signs will be made available to long-time players, although Komoto says they are still considering different options."

So, what kind of crafting/customization options would you like to see?
How detailed would you like to be able to customize a piece of equipment?
How should customization options differ between weapons and equipment?

I don't know about you, but after reading this crafting seems much more appealing. I'm sure skilled crafters will be in high demand!

I agree.. I imagine a world where nobody really wants to invest the time to be a crafter, so the few that do will get a ton of attention and probably be very wealthy because of it.

I hope the crafting isn't so tedious that it makes people stray away from it. FFXI was definitely very tedious, but I managed to level a few skills to about 30. I felt that I "mastered" my craft once I could make a good profit making silence potions and insect paste then catching the moat carp with said paste. :P

I'm thinking since two of the four main class branches are crafting oriented, crafting should be more popular this time around.

I think crafters should be able to "brand" their creations. Instead of signing things like in FFXI, it would be neat if we could create a unique aspect to what we make. Like Player X can create a unique hilt emblem for the weapons he crafts, or Player Y can create a unique dye color for the cloth she weaves.

I'm sure if people could create something really unique on what they made, it would be more sought after then just a random player's name attached to an object.

I think we will see a lot of players running around in black :P

But I like hearing this spot of news. One of my biggest turn offs to Final Fantasy XI was every single player at the lower levels wore the same armor

That was definitely a bummer.. The clothing you wore basically represented your stage in the game rather than anything unique about your person.

As long as we can get a full range of colors I'll be happy. :) I demand to have a white and blue armour set. Maybe with a slight hint of purple :)

In a way, I'd almost like some of the gear to not carry any statistical benefits, just so that people can choose from a massive wardrobe of clothing without the worry of failing to be the perfect job type.

We've seen a lot of Pugilists, haven't we? Hm... I wonder..... Do you think specific outfits are tied to specific weapons?.. Nah, if just because the Weaver profession exists..

TempestKin, I like your idea of customizable colors. If clothes do indeed have stats or benefits tied to them, everyone will end up wearing the same stuff anyway. The option to 'dye' garments would really allow players to be an individual.

I think it would give people more incentive to craft also, if only to dye their own gear. If they do have something like an AH, which I'm quite sure they will, having more crafters can keep the overall economy stable.

I think they mentioned dye's being in the game so :)

i like this idea because it means that LS (or whatever they will be called) will make there own color scheme for outfits so that you can show your love for your LS. id alot like to see equipment that is just for decoration for the same effect like a armband or something.

black+red armor will sell like wild fire so always make one i those colors for profit per crafting.

Wow..If I'm able to fully customize armor I will put a LOT of focus on crafting. It'd be awesome if people were like "Oh /tell Ghostayame he's the best blacksmith on the server"

I hope you can add stats to armor. Crafting would be useful then.

I'm hoping it's like in Mabinogi where you can dye certain parts of your clothes so even if you have the same costume as another person it does not look the same.

I sure hope so! I'm thinking for all black armor and a neon yellow subligar on my Roegadyn, whaddya think?

I've seen this in a few games, and been disappointed in it all the time, the level of customization was pitiful, with the most advanced being able to dye one to three different set sections of your armor in a restricted color palette.

That being said.... XIV is a god amongst wretched worms when it comes to graphics, so I sincerely hope that they will allow good representation when customizing your armor!

the only game so far that i liked the dye effects was guild wars and even that was lacking so hopefully they have a paint like program in this were you can really get into it

It'd be awesome if the implemented a system like APB! that games customization is WAY TOO AMAZAZING (yeah I know how I spelled it!) too bad the rest of the game was crap...
