I think they need to think about it, will using a spear automatically make you a DRG and thus have a dragon/wyvern? Also how about BST, would equiping a whip automatically allow to catch monsters? This special abilities dont seem to have a place in this discipline system of weapon equiping. What are your thoughts on these matters?

If you just equip a spear, you might become a Pikeman, but to become a Dragoon, they would most likely have a "subjob" system in place I think.
For example, if you sub the Disciple of the Land class "Handler" (which might be good at raising chocobos, or something of that nature) to Pikeman, he would then become a Dragoon and be able to fight with a spear, and command a Wyvern!
This is just from the top of my head, none of this is confirmed or anything.

Perhaps wearing specific armor will let you summon a Wyvern while you have a lance equipped. Lancer's original job traits (from previous FF's) is to jump. Though it wouldn't hurt to also add Lancet to the equation (an ability that works like a drain & aspir in 1).
Seeing a whip in action would be pretty sweet. Though I'd personally make it add the ability to charm monsters. One can only guess!
