So, what do we know about the Culinarian thus far?

The culinary arts have been recognized across Eorzea as a legitimate member of the Tradescraft Society since self-proclaimed gourmand, Guolskyf Bhaldwaensyn (a.k.a "Mastcleaver"), put forth a thalassocratic decree proclaiming the culinary arts a guildworthy craft approximately half a century ago.

State-of-the-art facilities at the Culinarian's Guild may improve one's chances of producing higher quality foods or larger yields, but usage comes at a price. This seems to be pretty similar to the "Image Support" found in Final Fantasy XI.

Quality tools/utensils are an important part of cooking and can have a profound effect on both flavor and yield. So far both skillets and knives have been confirmed to be two such tools/utensils:

Crystals will still play some sort of role in cooking (and likely all crafts for that matter), though details aren't quite clear at this point.

It seems recipes will not be set in stone; there will likely be room for some sort of flexibility and customization.

It also appears that food (and other such items?) will once again come in stacks of 12.

If you have anything to add (whether it be additional information, speculation, comments or questions), feel free to post!

What else would you like to see from the Culinarian? How do you feel about the above information?

Well it appears that the crafting classes in this game will not have any sort of role in combat, which is a shame because I'd love to be able to deep fry my enemies in a Chef Combo!

However Cooking was my favorite tradeskill in FFXI, and it seems to be pretty much the same deal. Just as long as failure rates on crafting isn't as high as it was in FFXI, it should seem like a solid class. In FFXI, cooking was just a tradeskill, but it played a major role in boosting your stats and making you more effective. Now that cooking is its own class, it should be even more important to have well cooked meals on your adventures.

I like how cooking recipes will be a bit more flexible, unless they mess it up by making it where there is only one "great" variation of a certain dish where the rest clearly pale in comparison. Then in effect, it does become set in stone. Hopefully they won't, but it is something to be wary about.

Yeah, I would have liked to bash enemies in the head with a frying pan ( la Peach in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). :msnchuckle:

This is a good point. As opposed to one "great" variation, I hope they differ in a way that each variation will always/often still be in demand by someone. Too many foods in FFXI were never in demand and thus pointless to make (other than to level up your cooking skill, of course).

That's what I mean. I remember that for damaging you'd eat Meat Mithkabobs, tanks ate Boiled Crab, and casters would have either pies or juices for mp.

There were others, but those 4 things were the ones that were sought after the most, and everything else was poor man's food.

from the web site it seems like its going to go along with that trend but maybe not one recipe .
what i mean is that meat will be use for melee class fruit for caster this i am positive of but i think there will also be recipes good for crafters too.

what i gather from the crafting itself is this:

crystal will be used as a ctalist like in FFXI(i hope they are easier to get than FFXI)
after "mastering" a recipe you can mass produce the product with one crystal by throwing in every ingedent for it you have ad the maxium product comes out.(hopefully reducing the cost of everything)
Yoohohohohoo!

Good news for Culinarian!

From the brand new info, it affirms that Horticulturists (say, that's new!) have a role in battle.... perhaps all land/crafting classes will?

Hehehe,, Now I'm getting a wee bit excited :msnpucker:
