Well that's my normal introduction. I'm also a massive fan of Japanese anime, music, and language. I have a Yamaha Blaster I ride on weekends with good weather. I own nearly every Squaresoft rpg in existence. I'm 24, a General Carpenter, and more or less your average every day saint-like creature. I see a lot of potential in this forum so I'm happy to contribute with my creative writing madness. (^_^ ;; )

Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, painful rectal itch, hallucination, and death.

We aren't the biggest FFXIV community around, but I think you'll find we have a great group of members!
You say you're a fan of Japanese... do you study? We have a forum section dedicated to 'all things Japan' (including Japanese practice), so feel free to join in! I'm currently living in Japan as well, so if you have any questions, ask away!
What's your favorite Squenix RPG?
How long did you play FFXI?
Do you write fanfiction? Do you enjoy roleplaying?
We're always looking for site contributors (particularly news/editorial writers) if you're interested:

Anyway, thanks for joining. Please enjoy yourself and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
:cool:
Nice signature by the way.
I am Goblin.

Japanese Studies
~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been going through "Rosetta Stone - Japanese" at a steady pace for the past year. Learning the basics and commonly used phrases has been a snap. I'd say the biggest flaw with this program is that the pictures which accompany each sentence are not very accurate once you get into complicated phrases. I still haven't decided whether or not I'll learn how to "write" Japanese characters. At the moment I've memorized Hirigana and Katakana and I write with romaji. I doubt I'll ever master kanji but I'll study the most common (1,000 or so) and maybe call it a day after that.
Favorite Squaresoft game
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd probably say Xenogears is hands down my favorite title by Squaresoft. The strongest aspect is its profound, and thought provoking storyline. The second cd seemed like it was rushed into completion and the game can be a little too complex for its own good. However, the title never ceases to amaze those who are devoted enough to listen intently and have their minds' opened to a whole new paradigm. I'm a huge fan of the music and combat system as well.
Final Fantasy 11
~~~~~~~~~~
I played FFXI on and off for five years starting from it's HDD release on PS2 and ending soon after the Treasures of Aht Urghan missions were completed (Alexander fight). I started on the Bahamut server and had an Elvaan 42 WHM, 40 SMN, 21 BLM, 70 Fishing, and 60 Cooking. I deleted my account and character when I went to college. I restarted on Fairy server a year later and had a Hume 60 MNK, 56 SAM, 50 NIN, 42 WHM, 37 WAR, 37 THF, 21 BLM, and 100 Cooking. I made a Tarutaru on the same server 60 BLM, 42 WHM. I eventually burnt out and deleted my account and characters for the second time vowing never to return. When ToAH came out I restarted FFXI AGAIN /facepalm on Caitsith server, this time getting Tarutaru to 75 SMN, 42 WHM, 21 BLM and FINALLY completing all of the end game content that had eluded me for half a decade.
Some things of interest: I leveled WHM to 42 and Black Mage to 21+ four times. I completed all main story missions using only SMN. I obtained all nine summons as a level 42 WHM before starting my Summoning career. I defeated Bahamut but lost the lottery for Bahamut's Staff. I fought Carbuncle Prime but we lost three times. However, my biggest and most original accomplishment occurred in my second time through the game in which I invented the "Scroll Hunter" profession. This involved creating a fresh level one character, giving him silent oil and prism powder, raising his fame with millioncorn, cornettes, or zinc ore, and finally completing the Warp and/or Teleport scroll quests as a Level one character within three hours of character creation.
Repeating this process I netted nearly 20 scrolls a day and made millions of gil a week (scrolls were selling 100k-500k). Eventually people noticed that my two characters had sold the last 10 copies of every major scroll and I started getting competition and under cutters. Square released a patch a month later raising the minimum level requirements of these quests foiling my plans for world domination (^_^)v. When my reign of terror was over my spoils of war included Cross-Counters, Ochiudo's Kote, an HQ Elemental stave collection, and a Peacock Charm with plenty of gil to spare.
Creative Writing
~~~~~~~~~~
I've never written anything major. This habit of mine only kicks in during forum posts and only under certain conditions (1. No games to play, 2. No anime to watch, 3. No new FFXIV information). When all conditions are met I turn into "Trance Galactimus" and fall unconscious for roughly two hours. When the dust clears something clever appears in text format.

Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, painful rectal itch, hallucination, and death.

I regret to inform you that Galactimus has now become a fully active member on this Final Fantasy 14 forum. I offer you my deepest apologies and I assure you everything is being done to rectify this matter. However, until this is resolved we must withstand adversity, withstand the fires of hell from tainting our minds, withstand Galactimus. Some of you may look on in despair. Your morale may be curb-stomped or nuked in similar fashion. Perhaps even the devil himself will rise up and smother you into his crotch like a soapy lather of evil. Our actions may have brought upon irreversible consequences but ladies and gentlemen we must persevere. I beg your forgiveness and pray to those already lost to his madness.
Sincerely,

Galactimus
(In summary: Thanks for the warm welcome!)

Hah (^_^ ;; ). I'd be happy to help out ahleanna-sama. However, I'm quite afraid of crossing that American border. You see Canadians only enter America as a final act of courage before we die. Our elderly warriors make a pilgrimage from Ontario to Florida and are never seen again. Such may be my fate but going now would simply be a waste of youth. I'd never be able to wash that dirty feeling off if I did survive. Oh my.. the unspeakable things they would do to me. The horror... the horror.

What part of Ontario, since I formerly was almost a Canadian?
P.S. - America is a dirty evil land. If you survived you should be proclaimed a HERO!

I live in Woodstock which is about two hours from Toronto and half an hour from London. It's a small city with not a whole lot to do. I'm starting to feel like the meat in an incompetent Woodstock sandwich; thus I'm planning to move to Ottawa, Ontario this year. "Ottawa has been ranked sixth in the world in terms of quality of life. This rating is based on many factors, including low crime rates, environmental cleanliness, public services, political stability, and socio-economic conditions."
I can't wait!
Fun Fact: The Parliament Building on the far left is Canada's equivalent of the White House in the U.S.
