So an excellent post be Eorzea got the good ol' nostalgia juices flowing
http://www.ff14site.com/thread-5.html

I had a specific memory of my Maat fight. My main job was Red Mage and as far as I know, the undisputed champion of damn near impossible Maat fight.

I remember getting that item (I forgot what it was oddly) to fight Maat, thinking this could be a breeze. I came in prepared and when the fight started, Maat's fists and insanely quick magical casting left me so overwhelmed I didn't even get a hit off. I just stared at the screen as he beat me down like the chump I was.

There's a specific order to the RDM Maat fight strategy. You need to sleep him before he can buff himself, then buff yourself and sleep > nuke > Sleep > Nuke until he's about half way. You hit convert and chain spell his ass til he drops dead. My third attempt at the Maat fight went all wrong. I remember having to cast my chain spell at 3/4 health because my sleep was being deflected off of him. I had to keep myself alive from his punches until sleep recharged. Then I chainspelled nuked until he was dead.

Pretty sure I was shaking so bad my mom probably thought I was seizing or something. I had to step away from my TV (I played on PS2) to calm down. I think I remember all my friends sending me /tell's to make sure I won. I think my silence made them think I lost again. Infact, I had a friend who had another RDM friend who was on his 10th attempt. So she pretty much doubted me from the get go :D

Anyone have any interesting Maat stories? I know I had several friends with them :D Even if you beat him first try, go ahead and brag. Make us angry ^_-

I conquered Maat as a Summoner using a pretty interesting strategy. I entered the fight on Windsday so Maat summoned Garuda. I used Garuda and Titan to buff myself with Blink and Stoneskin. I summoned Shiva, drank a yagudo drink, and made her cast Frost Armor (Ice Spikes). I waited one more minute and finally sent Shiva to attack Maat.

Maat fights like a Monk so the Ice Spikes paralyzed him almost immediately and made him quite inept at combat. First I made Shiva use Sleepga which put Garuda to sleep then I used Double Slap on Maat. After taking this damage Maat activated Astral Flow but Garuda failed as she felt like sleeping instead (Booyah!). After a minute of Shiva pounding on Maat and Maat suffering with paralyzation I used Astral Flow + Diamond Dust which instantly destroyed Garuda and tossed Maat to 40% hp.

After that I ran to the Burning Circle entrance and popped some ethers. When Shiva died I summoned Garuda as fast as I could but Maat runs so fast that he was able to attack me a few times. He hit me with an Asurans Fist and I barely survived thanks to my buffs. Once Garuda regained hate I used Aerial Blast and finished Maat off. A pretty easy fight for Summoner. Sleepga and Ice Spikes made the fight a breeze. 1/1

Great stories, you two!

I beat Maat as a Ranger on my first try. I didn't read any strategy beforehand and had very little idea what to expect other than a tough fight. It has been about four or five years now since the fight and thus I can't remember many specifics, but I didn't think it shocking at the time that I was able to beat him on my first try. Perhaps fighting Maat as a Ranger is/was simply easier than other jobs? Hmm...

As far as I know, RDM was pretty challenging compared to most jobs. My WHM and DRG friends said they got him first try. The difficult thing with RDM is if you buff first, you die every time. You run your ass off to Maat and cast sleep asap, or else you're dead.

As I learned the first two times fighting him :D

Rdm was considered one of the harder maat fight, and Ranger one of the easiest ;)

I just lost to maat for the 5th time this A.M. I just cant seem to get it down right. lvl 70mnk doing the opo-opo strat. I'm so pissed right now.. Anyone tell me if I should be using counter strike or berserk? Last time i tried I did not use either but I used my 2hr when i was almost dead and not at the beggining of the fight cause i forgot how fast the fight goes by. I will get a new testimony and try again tom. /sigh

After using a 300% TP Raging Fist I might recommend using an Icarus Wing for another 100% Tp attack followed by your two hour ability. Also you don't have a subjob during that fight so sadly Berserk isn't an option.

Another tactic you may want to try is using Chi Blast. You macro in as much MND gear as possible such as Zealot's Mitts, Water Staff, etc. Then you Boost 15 times (or it may be 12 times. I forgot how long Boost stays active for) followed by Chi Blast. You should be able to hit him for close to 1,000 damage before you even begin the fight. However, you won't have Berserk so it could be less and it depends how much MND gear you have. Just an idea as my Chi Blast hit regular mobs for 700 damage at level 60.

thanks for the info I guess I should have been more specific. Maybe you just showed me my problem though!!! Here is exactly step by step how I've been doing it.
enter the arena w/o any gear.
macro all my gear on w/ all my mind gear and opo-opo necklace.
Sole Sushi
Use 4 sleeping potions to reach 100% TP (should I be doing more?)
Boost x10
Focus/Dodge
Chi-blast for around 800-900
Macro in melee gear
(this is where I think I should 2hr but I didnt)
Howling fist
Icarus wing
howling fist
(This is were I 2hr'd, think this is a mistake)
Chakra macro'd w/ +chakra gear then right back to melee gear
/death

So what do you think move around my 2hr and I dont know how much TP I can get w/o running out of time. The fight is pretty quick though. Thanks for the help ^_^

jayquick, perhaps me sharing my win will help you defeating him.

First is step preparation. I had a vile elixir +1, and 1 icarus wing. I actually avoided sleeping to 100 TP because if you piss off Maat early, he WILL WS you and you want to avoid that for as long as possible. As far as food, I don't remember what I used, but in your case I would more than likely use marinara pizza +1 because that food is just plain awesome for DD's.

Second step is macros. This is something to have ready on pretty much any 1 on 1 scenario. (I've done a few 1 on 1 ENM's, 1 particular one that monk is excellent on...) Pretty much have all your macros ready in such a way that you can access them easily in the order your fight will go. This also includes vile elixir +1 among your macros. I think it's something like /item "Vile Elixir +1" or something of that nature.

As far as the strategy, the main thing is to not piss off Maat too early, doing so will cause him to use hundred fists early. I did about 4-5 boosts (doing the full 11 boosts for chi blast will also piss him off). I followed up by engaging, activating dodge, focus & hundred fists and firing off chi blast. Timed chakra according to my health & used vile elixir +1 when health was semi-low. The elixir takes a short bit to use so be careful when using it. At 50%, fired off raging fists (w/o boost as it takes up valuable time), then immediately used the icarus wing & firing off the 2nd raging fists. That pretty much finished him off.

Things to note is that even though counterstance is good on a lot of solo situations, it is BAD for Maat since he'll hit like a truck. Another thing is that if he activates counterstance for himself (you can kinda tell by the times he counters you) then it'll be pretty hard to beat him since that's pretty much why I lost the second time to him. The most important tip I can give is to be as relaxed as you can possibly be. After engaging it shouldn't take over 30 seconds to beat him. Hope that was helpful, good luck!

Only ever fought him as a BLM, but I did it on the first try. Good thing too, getting the stupid item to enter the fight was a pain.

It's a little hazy, but I imagine it went something like..

Elemental Seal > (Strongest ancient magic spell) > Stun > (Strongest spells til win)

I think he only got like one good spell off on me, and it took out a good chunk, maybe even most, of my life.

Oh man I cant help but add mine. Its been almost 6 years now...
I had already lost once, so I went forum searching to find a different way for rdm to do it. I remember dlvling on purpose and getting an exp scroll and a vile elixir. I enter and immediately buff with SS and phalanx only, then ran up and CS then cast bind and grav. I then nuked the crap out of Maat used the exp scroll and lvld to 70 mid fight giving me full hp/mp and proceded nuking. Maat was crispy by this time. I still remember the time too, 1 min 17 second win on rdm maat.
