It seems the boxart for FFXIII has been leaked, though it has yet to be confirmed:

Well, if this does turn out to be the boxart in Japan, it will be the first time a Final Fantasy game in Japan is released with something other than the game's logo on a white background.

Not sure I like that box art. I've always thought that Japans box arts look better with the logo and plain white background. One of the big reasons I bought FFIV and FFIII on the DS so fast. SE should just do that for every FF title. But where's my FFVI DS remake???

Not a fan of the box art, just looks too simplistic.

How do you feel about the other Japanese Final Fantasy boxart, Hugbees? Those are even more simple: the game's logo on top of a white background.

No FFVI remake, please! It's perfect as is. Just as I would never really want a Chrono Trigger or Vagrant Story remake. :msnhammer:

I like that box art a lot, it is a bit simple but imo that makes it a better accomplishment. Some art boxes have just too much on it.

The new box art is decent enough but I think the original design a bit better. I don't think a "girl clad in pink riding her pony" will help sell copies but "Final Fantasy" is such a huge household name that it doesn't matter much. (^_^ ;; )

Actually not a big fan of either.. I like the kind that don't emphasize characters or their heads, but have a focus on some sort of vast scene. Japanese tend to get it right, but not so much here.

These are a few I really like:

Still, I'd prefer this type of quaint boxart

over this catastrophe

The colors and alright, but what's the obsession with heads? It's not like they need to show us the heads of the great hollywood actors/actresses to draw us into buying the game.. I imagine that tactic is the origin of the 'lots of heads!' design angle... But we don't know any of these characters. Sure the characters are important, but just seeing their faces doesn't do any sort of job of representing the game. We won't even know who these characters are until invest hours and hours into the game.

edit: Haha, really. is this some sort of school photo? It's like the cast of FFXII went to Sears to have their picture taken.. then some arsehole photographer blew up the faces of 3 characters and randomly placed them around.. AAre they bodiless phantoms? I know my argument might seem odd, because this sort of thing is 'normal', but take a step back, take a new perspective, and see how bizarre this really is.

The collector's edition of FFXII, however, look(s/ed) very nice:

I agree with what you're saying, though, Momotaru.

Agreed, that one's got class.

Ah, this one's interesting too.. If I'm not mistaken, we might have gotten the same thing.

Yeah, FFXII's basic box was just terrible. Such a shame considering the game had SO many options for a decent box art. It was one of the reasons I bought the collector's edition.

I really wonder how come the game's logo can't be put on the box with a white (or black) background. Maybe SE NA thinks that it is boring and will not be noticeable to the consumer. But I think it's elegance is what's noticeable.

Well it's been confirmed that the box art of FFXIII in Japan will be the plain and simple white background, with the FFXIII logo on it :) I guess we'll get that in the UK too, as we've always had the simplistic box art over here. I think it must only be NA that gets images.

(sorry I can't find the link, but I read it on N4G not too long ago!)

Wow, that collectors edition looked awesome. Hopefully they will do something like that for FFXIV
