Making money

What are some strategies you did to make money? I find diversifying can work. For example, I knew lots of people who relied on one thing to provide their gil. I had some friends that would go to The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah and fight the goobbues to get tree cuttings then plant them for Tree Saplings. I like this strategy as well, but it's hard when it's your only way of earning gil.
I make arrows (still) and HQ Bard instruments every now and then. I'll also make other HQ items that I can with my craft skills. But I am always moving. I make a sale and move on to return at a later date. Silly as it sounds, I also sell everything I get on the AH if I can. Some things just aren't practical to sell. But even if it sells for 500Gil or 1,000G, I will sell it.

When I played again recently I leveled up on Efts in Bibiki Bay in my lower 30s (I think) and got quite a few HQ Eft Skins to drop (which sold for about 20k gil/each on my server). Normal stacks of Eft Skins went for about 8k gil.
If you have a character around that level it may be worth giving it a shot. You can gain levels in the process. ;)
I'm sure Yuna could give you a better answer if she were around, but I'm not sure where she has been recently.

It takes a while, but if you do other methods while doing this one, the dough rolls on.

It's probably not too useful now, this was really useful though when all the prices were inflated! (Scorp Harness around 6 mil normal quality lol)...

The premise is simple. Create a level one character and obtain as many expensive scrolls as possible in a short amount of time. The one's that could be solo'd at level one were Teleport Mea, Holla, Dem, Altep, Warp, Drain, and Aspir (I think I'm missing one).
The trick was knowing how to raise your fame and understanding these quests inside and out. Having completely restarted this game five times in five years I knew absolutely everything from level 1-60. My clan called me the FFXI guru. Anyways..
The conquest tally determined exactly what scrolls could be obtained. If Bastok was in first place you could purchase cornettes for an extremely low price in the Bastok music shop. You then send 200 of these from your main to a mule in Windurst. Give these to the "Mandragora Mad" quest giver and your level 1 suddenly has enough fame to do Aspir, Blaze Spikes (thats the one!) and Teleport-Mea. You load this character up with all the quest items he needs to hand in beforehand and give him a stack of Silent Oil and Prism powder. To warp you simply kill yourself. No exp loss. All three scrolls in 2 hours. And at that time Teleport Mea was 300k, Aspir was 200k, Blaze was 50k.
If Sand'Oria was in first then you could purchase extremely cheap millioncorn in the grocery store. You had to make two trips but after handing in hundreds of these things to the man in Selbina you had enough fame for Bastok AND Sandoria scroll quests. The one minor thing I performed was getting to Rank 2-3 in Bastok each time. Every mission was a simple item hand in mission and required no fighting. Rank 2-3 allowed you to enter the Chateau in Sandoria to obtain Drain for another 90k. Teleport Altep, Dem, and Holla had lots of running around but the crazy amount of gil you obtained was worth the three hours it took. Warp was as simple as giving a cheap auction house item to a man in the Bastok Metalworks. Three hours of work, one million in profit.
If the conquest tally didn't turn in my favor I'd purchase Boyadha moss from the Jeuno AH and do the same thing. But I lost a lot of profit this way. Anyways, after one week I had ten of every single scroll up for auction, ten more sitting in my mog safe, and I never let my stock go down. After a few days I had to start undercutting, and eventually one other player showed up with multiple scrolls. He figured out my plan. Two weeks later Square Enix patched the game and increased the level requirement for nearly every single scroll quest to level 15ish.
When the dust settled I had 50 million gil in my pocket. I also had eight HQ elemental staves for my Black Mage. Cross-Counters, Ochiudo's Kote, and Peacock Charm on my 60 Monk. My cooking also got leveled to level 100. (99-100 was hell as I had to solo bee's in Crawler's Nest for EX Jelly).
Now If you're looking for a more up to date method of obtaining gil I recommend BCNM's. I got my Summoner to 75 with the gil I obtained from BCNM's and various scrolls I sold (I wasn't a Scroll Hunter on this account). Summoner was one of the cheapest jobs to level though (most of their best equipment is from quests or was cheap.)

Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, painful rectal itch, hallucination, and death.
Summoning is not for everyone. Consult your doctor before use.

http://www.ffxiah.com/bcnm.php?id=82 has drops plus it can drop a Cloud Evoker which you can sell to an LS if you choose to (prices vary per LS).
----------------------------------
Can also do Sheep in Antlion's Clothing @ Boneyard Gully. For this, you'll need a healer and some DD's (2-3 good ones should do the trick). You need to run around and kill off a boss that hides every few % you hit him. The BC also has 3 other babies that need to be killed off in case you spawn them.
The only good drops are Hagun (usually runs for around 3 mil per server, but low drop rate), Forager's Mantle and a Cloud Evoker.
------------------------------------------
If you happen to have mnk/war level 50+, you /can/ solo ENM Pulling the Plug. By can, you'd need to spend some gil on good food (pizza +1 should do the trick), 1 Vile Elixir +1, 1 Icarus Wing and 1 Psychoanima (remember this from promy missions?).
Now for strategy: there will be 1 Memory Receptacle (MR) that when you aggro it, 3 other MR's will spawn. You'll need to immediately target and kill the blue/teal one. (A charged up chi blast & raging fists w/ TP from Icarus Wing) should do the trick. As soon as the MR goes down, immediately use the Psychoanima on the promy boss that spawns, then switch your target to the main MR that you saw when you entered the room and hundred fists it to death. You'll be sent all over the place w/ the other MR's Empty Seeds that all go off at the same time. If all goes well you can take down the yellow MR before you die.
As far as prize goes, pray that you get an Impetuous Vision which you can trade to the NPC for a Toreador's Ring which goes for about 3 mil depending on server.
There's other BC fights as well, but too lazy to look for them atm. Those are the 3 main ENM's I used to go to and you can enter an ENM once every few days (5 I think). There's also BCNM, ISNM and other ways to make gil but others can cover that, my post is long enough as is. :)
Good luck and happy hunting!
