Crystalium System

Well, it's been confirmed that characters won't be gaining experience points in FFXIII - thus, characters won't gain levels!
Instead, SE have implemented a new system in to FFXIII - the Crystalium System. When characters defeat enemies they gain Crystal Points. Read the article below for a more thorough explanation!

What are your thoughts on this system? I think it will work well, and you'll be able to have a nice rounded party! It seems very FFX'ish, which I think is a good thing! I like how it merges in with the Optima Change system, too.

Could you post that link again please =D I would like to read the article and It seems that you have pasted the opening sentence in the URL code rather than the web address =]
If it is like FFX's Sphere grid system then I'll be happy... I liked how it was done in that game...

Assuming Kurisu is known as MINIMOGZ elsewhere and posted a similar topic, I'm guessing the article URL is http://www.uffsite.n...r-gameplay.html

Very cool. This is a great system. Hopefully that is what they are shooting for in FFXIV as well. I'm still concerned about the "no experience points" claim, but if this is what they have in mind, I am all for it! Brilliant!

Haha, Eorzea, that is indeed me! The website I posted that on is dying out lately. I was trying to inject some activity but...it didn't work.
@Cid: FFX never had experience points, either. You gained AP and when you gained that, you earnt spheres, which could then be spent on upgrading health and new abilities etc. I guess that's how FFXIII will be working too, although the spheres have been replaced with Crystals!
Hopefully we will find out more about this soon.

Having only skimmed the article, I like the way this sounds. Customization is always a good thing, but I personally feel that allowing all characters to master all abilities and weapons is a bit ridiculous and unrealistic. Therefore, I like that Final Fantasy XIII will at least be restricting each character to his or her initial type of weapon.

reading that, I really like the sound of this new system. I loved FFX's sphere rid though though it was rather stupid how everyone could learn everything. I also didn't like in FFXII that any character could use any weapon.. this new system does sound like a big improvement on the Sphere grid and I can't wait to try it out...
I'll probably completely mess it up on the first playthrough like I did with the Sphere grid... But the second playthrough should be a blast

LOL Val! The amount of times I had to reset my PS2 because I wasn't happy with the route I had taken on the sphere grid was ridiculous! The same can be said with the license points on FFXII haha. And I'm sure the same will happen with FFXIII! I wonder if FFXIII will have save points or an auto-save?
However, I also agree that it is good that people keep the same weapons! Plus Optima change could influence the route you take.
