So I thought, since most of you are new to the concept of a forum Roleplay, that together; We could the discuss the initial basics of our first Forum Roleplay! [or second/third- in case someone else starts one before this one is done... which isnt a problem! Its encouraged
I'm going to write below a few basic examples of different directions we could go in and then we could discuss what we would all like and then find a compromise somewhere so that we are all happy =D Anyone that wants to take part in the Roleplay Section, please write down what you feel youll most enjoy in terms of a setting and story. Even if you don't intend to participate right away, It would be nice to know for future reference... =D
First things first, what would you rather do; Roleplay in an already created world or a custom world?
Both have their good points and bad points, but what would you like to do?
Roleplaying in a world already created can be a lot of fun depending how you go about it. By already Created World I mean worlds from games like any of the Final fantasy Series or worlds from anime/manga, such as Naruto or Bleach. Even fictional settings from our own world, Earth, like Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books.
My very first Roleplay was set in the world of Final Fantasy VII. We Roleplayed as an Avalanche branch group on the upper layer of Midgar. It was a hell of a lot of fun even though there were restrictions... Our story was actually nothing similar to the original story of FFVII, though we were still a pain in ShinRas back side. xD
When you Roleplay in an already created world, you have to stay within the rules of that world, obviously.
Custom worlds obviously don't come ready made, but you do get a lot more freedom such as the use of magic/abilities and the creation of curses/legends on the fly. Which custom worlds, you have the most freedom when creating your character since... You can have blue hair... Your race also doesn't become limited. Though please keep in mind that when you join someone elses Custom world, to be mindful of the rules they create for that world. If they dont what you to be able to turn into a dragon on a whim... then dont =D
I usually tend to Roleplay in Custom worlds as you don't have to try and bend your story around someone elses. Say you were Roleplaying in an FFX world; Sin and friends have already been defeated, so if you are going to make a new enemy to threaten the world... might as well make in for a custom world...
In summary, Custom worlds take a little more thought, but allows for more Freedom in terms of Story and Character Creation.
So, are we going to Roleplay in an already created world, like one created by Square Enix... Or are we going to make our own? When I know what people would like, I'll be happy to take care of all the little details of the story. You'll just need to make a character and Hop in =D
I would also like to write here and request that it not be a FFXI or FFXIV RP because.... Ive never played XI and also don't really know enough about XIV >_>
If we are going for an already created world... than which would you like to RP in?
If you would like to RP in a Custom world... Lets discuss Story!
My personal Favourite Roleplays are set in worlds that dont have that much technology... where you travel by foot going through town after town with various challenges along the way... until we reach the goal of our journey... though that might sound specific and dull... so much can happen along the way that its different each time. Just need decent characters and a decent goal and the story will write itself using us as a medium... I love Roleplaying, even if Im not that talented of a writer =]
Another idea Ill put forward is that we could do something a little more Sci-Fi-y. On another site where I started Roleplaying, between our Roleplays, we had another Roleplay that was a little faster paced which we would post on when waiting for people to post in other Roleplays. It was called Voyage Home and it was a simple story set in space where we were returning home after barely escaping a battle. The story begins just after successfully escaping a losing battle, so the story wasnt based on action and battle, but more on the characters and how they got along in what must have been a really tense time, trying to make it home.
Anyway, my point is that a Roleplay doesnt have to be based on action, but could be more about how our characters cope with each other whist heading towards their goal... and the other point was that it could be action based whist in space!!! Though Im not into Sci-Fi that much...
Another thing is that your characters dont have to be based on your Forum personas, though you might be more comfortable doing it that way if its your first Forum Roleplay... But as you get more used to it... Go wild with personality =D
Ill leave that here for now, I look forward to anything anyone has to say =D
