Alright, so I was messing about with a few ideas for a Roleplay that we could all join, but then I realised; I don't really know any of you =[ I don't have a clue what sort of story anyone would enjoy Roleplaying to.

So I thought, since most of you are new to the concept of a forum Roleplay, that together; We could the discuss the initial basics of our first Forum Roleplay! [or second/third- in case someone else starts one before this one is done... which isnt a problem! Its encouraged ^_^ If you have a Roleplay in mind, post it!]

I'm going to write below a few basic examples of different directions we could go in and then we could discuss what we would all like and then find a compromise somewhere so that we are all happy =D Anyone that wants to take part in the Roleplay Section, please write down what you feel youll most enjoy in terms of a setting and story. Even if you don't intend to participate right away, It would be nice to know for future reference... =D

First things first, what would you rather do; Roleplay in an already created world or a custom world?

Both have their good points and bad points, but what would you like to do?

Roleplaying in a world already created can be a lot of fun depending how you go about it. By already Created World I mean worlds from games like any of the Final fantasy Series or worlds from anime/manga, such as Naruto or Bleach. Even fictional settings from our own world, Earth, like Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books.

My very first Roleplay was set in the world of Final Fantasy VII. We Roleplayed as an Avalanche branch group on the upper layer of Midgar. It was a hell of a lot of fun even though there were restrictions... Our story was actually nothing similar to the original story of FFVII, though we were still a pain in ShinRas back side. xD

When you Roleplay in an already created world, you have to stay within the rules of that world, obviously.

Custom worlds obviously don't come ready made, but you do get a lot more freedom such as the use of magic/abilities and the creation of curses/legends on the fly. Which custom worlds, you have the most freedom when creating your character since... You can have blue hair... Your race also doesn't become limited. Though please keep in mind that when you join someone elses Custom world, to be mindful of the rules they create for that world. If they dont what you to be able to turn into a dragon on a whim... then dont =D

I usually tend to Roleplay in Custom worlds as you don't have to try and bend your story around someone elses. Say you were Roleplaying in an FFX world; Sin and friends have already been defeated, so if you are going to make a new enemy to threaten the world... might as well make in for a custom world...

In summary, Custom worlds take a little more thought, but allows for more Freedom in terms of Story and Character Creation.

So, are we going to Roleplay in an already created world, like one created by Square Enix... Or are we going to make our own? When I know what people would like, I'll be happy to take care of all the little details of the story. You'll just need to make a character and Hop in =D

I would also like to write here and request that it not be a FFXI or FFXIV RP because.... Ive never played XI and also don't really know enough about XIV >_>

If we are going for an already created world... than which would you like to RP in?

If you would like to RP in a Custom world... Lets discuss Story!

My personal Favourite Roleplays are set in worlds that dont have that much technology... where you travel by foot going through town after town with various challenges along the way... until we reach the goal of our journey... though that might sound specific and dull... so much can happen along the way that its different each time. Just need decent characters and a decent goal and the story will write itself using us as a medium... I love Roleplaying, even if Im not that talented of a writer =]

Another idea Ill put forward is that we could do something a little more Sci-Fi-y. On another site where I started Roleplaying, between our Roleplays, we had another Roleplay that was a little faster paced which we would post on when waiting for people to post in other Roleplays. It was called Voyage Home and it was a simple story set in space where we were returning home after barely escaping a battle. The story begins just after successfully escaping a losing battle, so the story wasnt based on action and battle, but more on the characters and how they got along in what must have been a really tense time, trying to make it home.

Anyway, my point is that a Roleplay doesnt have to be based on action, but could be more about how our characters cope with each other whist heading towards their goal... and the other point was that it could be action based whist in space!!! Though Im not into Sci-Fi that much...

Another thing is that your characters dont have to be based on your Forum personas, though you might be more comfortable doing it that way if its your first Forum Roleplay... But as you get more used to it... Go wild with personality =D

Ill leave that here for now, I look forward to anything anyone has to say =D

So, I'm completely new to the idea of forum roleplay, but it sounds like it could be a lot of fun. So I noticed you didn't want to use FFXIV as the world for it to take place in because you never played FFXI and don't know much about FFXIV, but none of us know much about XIV yet. I have also never played XI (well I didn't play much) so I cannot comment on that aspect. Even though I had made a character profile for a XIV world, I would defiantly add another one for what ever world we choose as I am sure there will be a RP based in the XIV world down the road.

As for a world besides XIV, I'm not sure what to say. That sounded like fun, the one you mentioned about FFVII. Even in the world of Naruto would be cool, there are other villages and time era's that could be roleplayed. Besides that I can't think of anything, I'm not to particular on the world. Thanks for helping out Val, sounds like this is the perfect job for you. :D

It's a given that somewhere down the road there will be an FFXIV Roleplay, and I want to be part of it! However, I don't think right now would be the best time to start one since, as I mentioned; Roleplays based in Already Created Worlds do have limits. FFXIV wouldn't be an exception. Actually, the fact that we know next to nothing about the world and story of the game, there would be even more restrictions. And for me, I dont know enough about its predecesor to even wing it.

I just think that for people who are new to Forum Roleplaying shouldn't have so many restrictions from the get-go. And anyway... People can be part of several Roleplays, posting simutaniously to each. Just because someone in part of one doesnt mean they cant join/create another =D

Thank you for the compliment =D

Anyway, What do you think could be a reason for our characters to band together? Would it be in their interest to stay together... or would they have no other choice? Would they even get along?

I know questions like these cant be answered without knowing the characters or situation, But I find simple questions like that can help develop a decent plot from nothing... building on ideas from different points of veiw.

Is there anyone after us? are we after anyone? which side of the law are we on. what sorts of laws are there, if any... Simple things can make a Roleplay very interesting.

I think it would be more interesting to exist in a world we all already know.. It will be easier for everyone to coexist without a feeling of bewilderment and sudden disinterest when our visions of the world clash.

That's my prediction anyway. The only Roleplaying I've ever done (yeh, I might have admitted to having not done this before, but I just recalled ancient history) was in IGN's Smash Bros. Melee board waaay back in the day. The game was still unreleased, and the roleplaying threads were really silly.. Basically each person was a Nintendo character and we would all be in some unusual situation, like 'Smash Bros. go camping'.. We'd all be on the bus, the drive there.. etc. I don't recall anything other than that I somehow managed to get Mario and worked my best Italian-game accent I could. It was fun, but it was also a mess with so many participants and multiple copies of the same character showing up.

Well anyway, I think we should do some Final Fantasy world to start. XIV would be ideal, but we know so little about it right now.. But maybe that could work to our advantage? In a way it'd be as if we were in that world, with all the rules associated with it, but locations, enemies, magic, etc, could be filled in with generalized FF content or a little of our own creation.. It would also relegate our progress in traveling the world.. As we learn more about XIV, we'll be able to take our adventures a step further, or clarify that which we've already done. It could be fun :D

I agree that for our first roleplay a pre-existing world would probably be best... ideally one with which everyone is familiar as well (for example, FFVII through FFX). It could even take place in a single city or area of a game if you prefer: Midgar, Balamb Garden, etc.

After members get a feel for the way things should work, perhaps then it would be fun to create some FFXIV-related roleplays.

Just something to think about. ;)

So, we've decided on using a world from the Final Fantasy series... Which one should we use?!

I agree with what Eorzea suggested; Using world from either FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX or FFX. FFXII could be pretty fun as well: Daring sky pirates, doing what ever the hell they want regardless of who may be on chasing them.

There are many possibilities with in each of the worlds... Bah... I cant wait too start... I've already got a character in mind =D

Anyone have any input? If anyone wants, I could come up with some mock scenarios we could potentially roleplay for some of the worlds?

come on people, show a little love for this section please =[ It can be alot of fun, espcially if several members involved are online at the same time =D

Also, I really hope Eorzea will participate in the roleplaying! I know you're busy and all, but I've wanted you to join in with me and the others since way back =D

I have been involved in an RP once before, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was!

Anyway, I don't think I'd want to join in on the RP straight away. From what I remeber of my last one...I wasn't that good. It would be nice to see how other people write, fit around the story etc. Maybe I could base a character around what's happened in the story so far.

As for the setting of the RP, I also agree that it should all be in a world that we are used to. That would ensure that we all have something to base our charactes on.

A world we can all know and agree on would be a great idea, but sadly for me, if it is going to be somewhere in the FFVII-XII range, I have only played 7 and 9. :(

But what ever the world is, it wouldn't take much time for me to do a little research on the particular game/settings we use. Like I think I previously said, I'm not to picky on the world we choose. Maybe a poll?

I really wouldn't mind doing another FFVII roleplay.. Maybe we should just go ahead with that... and then others can join in and if they dont want to roleplay in an FFVII rp, they can create their own and we can join them... it doesn't have too be one RP at any one time =D

For the FFVII roleplay, I've already got a plot and come up with my character... Its not exactly the same as the one i mentioned doing in the past, but Its similar and I know it will be quite fun!

I'll post it later on just so we can get this section started.. =] I look forward to seeing who will participate =D

It's been so long since I've played FFVII, but I think it would probably be the easiest location for most people to remember/recall. Should it encompass the entire world of FFVII, though, or would it be better if it were located in only a portion (such as Midgar)?

I'll likely participate to some degree, but as you said... I am quite busy with other things as well.

What I'm thinking is that it will mostly stay within Midgar, On the upper plate. since this area wasn't vastly explored in game, we will have more freedom up there. Depending on what directon we take the story in, we may venture out of Midgar... but we will have too see how it goes...

I'm expecting posts to be rather short and quick at first, where Members control there own characters only [aswell as key NPCs to help with their development] But then when posts become longer or when the story requires it, Members gain Limited control of the characters of others to help progress the story [Keeping them in character].... Thats what I expect anyway, if it takes off...

So even if you're busy, you could still 'whack out' a quick post in about 5~10 minutes just to help move the story along =D

In an FFXII roleply I was apart of, posts were really short and fast, and in about 3 days, there were 86 posts xD [then the host disappeared and the fun ended =[ ] Though it was 86 posts, we didn't really do much... but I remember it being so much fun because of how fast in moved.. xD

I was going to make the opening post tonight, but I'm really tired after work... I'll do the opening post (aswell as the profile thread and my character) tomorrow... I have a day off =D

I just added something really quick in my character creation thread. Nothing too special, also don't have a character name yet but I'm warming up to the character all ready. I should be able to work the character into the story what ever the story might be. Let me know what you think.

I think it's definitely best to have a specific character for each roleplay depending on the world/setting/situation/etc.

Anyway, Midgar sounds good. Feel free to get things set up when you're ready, Val!

I propose it be based solely on the Midgar found in the original Final Fantasy VII game (as opposed to any movies and/or spin-offs).
