Recently, as of November 6th, Shounen Jump revealed the look of the Chocobos in Final Fantasy XIII. They look slightly different than how Chocobos looked in previous Final Fantasy games. No word yet on if they still say "Kweh!", but they do have an exclamation point above their head whenever they have found buried treasure. They can also fight enemies, and their health is shown by the feathers on them. The more feathers that they lose, the less health they have. Once they lose enough feathers, they then run away leaving you unable to use them. The only place known that you can use these Chocobos is on the plains of Pulse.

The scan can be found Here!. A big thanks to Presto of FFNEXT.com for providing this information.

So, what do you guys think of the Chocobos? To me they seem to look like an evolved version of the Chocobos from FFX! That's a good thing in my opinion as the Chocobos in X were much better than in XI (ugly!) and XII.

I'm not keen on the Chocobos being able to fight monsters though. The whole point of the Chocobo is to get from point A to B as quick as possible, whilst AVOIDING enemies! I bet there will be a "Kill X amount of enemies while riding a Chocobo" Trophy / Achievement. While fighting enemies I would much rather do battle using party members!

I'm VERY glad that SE didn't make the Chocobo's mechanical! At one point I really thought that they might have done that. Oh, and notice Hope's Eidolon, Alexander. I wonder what it will transform in to?

It's funny because I'm the exact opposite... FFXI and FFXII where the proper direction in chocobo graphics (very similar to the one in FFXIV too). I can only hope that is the direction they take chocobos in future series.

I very much dislike the chocobo in the picture provided. It looks like a chocobo with a mohawk and floppy ears. And I thought the chocobo couldn't look any worse than in FFX... I've been proven wrong!

I'm afraid I have to agree with karari on this one. I think the Chocobos pictured in that scan look a bit ridiculous. :-/ I much prefer the ones in FFXI and FFXIV.

Appreciate the scan and information, though! Thanks for posting it.

*cough*
*hack*
*cough*
not sure what is up with the floppy eared chocobo, but I'll take my traditional earless 8 foot tall chocobo over that 20 foot tall droopy/chocobo hybrid anytime!

...that being said, I personally don't mind seeing a chocobo join in battle one bit. Maybe chocobos can get involved the way the magitech armor is going to be involved. We'll have to see what they have in store for us! I seem to recall a summon or something where you could call a chocobo stampede to trample your enemy, and it seems like there was another instance of a chocobo summon back in the day too. So there has definitely been precedent set for fighting chocobos!
