Today, I was on FFXI synthing acid arrows into Quivers. I got a tell from a guy advertising 1Million gil for $21.50 on some website. Is RMT getting desperate?
I remember a few years back when the RMT was at its peak. Having a million gil was pocket change. I think gil prices dropped to like $5 for a million gil. Then the task force was created and accounts started getting banned and gil was removed from the market. It was definitely an over night change.
Has SE become so efficient at removing RMT that the RMT are becoming desperate by sending shouts and tells of cheap gil? That's the quickest way to have your account, and your gil taken away from you.
And another business bites the dust :msnchuckle:

I don't know how much you know about what happens behind the scenes in RMT, but I can almost guarantee that whoever whispered you was not orginally a gil seller, but more likely a hacked account. These hacked accounts (or even sometimes normal accounts that are being "powerleveled") send shouts and tells as advertisements in game for RMT to achieve two things: publicity and a ban.
It goes something like this:
1. Gil seller receives account information promising whatever services or they achieve from a keylogger.
2. RMT monitors account for large quanities of gil.
3. RMT sells all equipment and anything worth while, and transfers the gil to it's customers.
4. RMT finally shouts/whispers everyone about their services in order to achieve a ban.
Having a banned account is extremely frustrating for the customer, as it "proves" that they are somehow mingled in with RMT trade (whether they have used a previous service, about to use it, or visited a site and obtained a keylogger). Not being able to log on complicates things even more, as the customer is left wondering why they were banned, etc. and they do not grasp the full concept of what has happened.
On a side note, advertising through tells and whispers either means RMT is nearly dead, or it's thriving quite nicely. Desperation only appears when no one is buying (dead), and when no one is buying from you (thriving).

Interesting. I never thought of it like that.
I'm sure RMT just can't die completely. It will always thrive in some way or another. But I feel SE's efforts have weakened them to the point where they no longer run the show. I remember at their peak they dictated nearly all AH prices, Gil was so plentiful that a million gil was pocket change. They were selling a million gil that it was a single M&M!
