If you click on "Disciples of the Land" on the official NA site, the title for the page that comes up is Botanist.

I think it's safe to say gardening will make a return in Final Fantasy XIV. ;) The question is, in what way/shape/form? Ideally, what things/abilities would you like to see available? Which aspects of FFXI would you like to see carried over (if any) and which aspects would you like to see changed? What kinds of things should be added?

Assuming we are once again given something along the lines of a Mog House, I think it would be nice if Squenix gave us an outside area for gardening. Perhaps even a greenhouse! And I would want for other players to be able to see my garden, too. :msnrose: Showing off all of my hard work would be half the fun!

How about you?

So much depends on the moghouse situation!

In any event, I'd like to see the return of the delayed gratification of planting and checking on the plants for days. I also like the idea of some pots being better than others for certain plants. Maybe you can craft some fertilizer?

I hope it's a more hands on role too, like trimming plants, and catering to them. Not just... planting a plant, and then see it grow, and that's it. I would like to see more fertilizers like Cid said.

I'm interested!

.. and I agree with TempestKin... it needs to be interactive.

If the rumor is true, Botanists will have a role in battles as well, which is exciting!

Does anyone remember Ultima Online years ago when you could plant gardens and cross bread new plants?

Now that would be awesome. I liked the farming in FFXI except for the difficulty of getting items you needed even when you did do it at the right phase and everything. I think they said the elemental days not being a factor. So perhaps enough trinkets from the right elemental as decoration.

I'm pretty sure the Botanist will be able to harvest wild plants, and the FFXIV website says you'll be able to also harvest lumber, although I'm not sure about gardening.

As Botanist (rank 5 atm) you can harvest from nodes, you can see them coz they glitch and harvesting them is easy. You dont get to see exactly what you are going to harverst untill is done. But it is easy to perform.
There are also trees you can harvest/log to get wood and fruits, and that is a totally different thing. It requires a lot more time, it goes slow and you may fail a lot as the procces involves, putting a mark on the tree, aiming, chopping and you have but several tries to get it right.
I had a guildleve where i had to gather 3 pieces of a certain wood, you get 30 minutes to do it.. And i almost failed  .
3 minutes before the end of the timer i got my third, pew pew...
Btw, the game use to tell a lot that i chop like as if i'm using a swan feather. So, for the discs. of Magic that want to be also botanist, it may be a good idea to realocate your points and put "some" in to Strength ;)

I can't wait. I'm all up for all the other aspects of harvesting sounds like real fun. But the part I like the most is getting lumber. I did a ton of logging back in my ffxi days, really loved it. Especially when it would get popular all of a sudden and it gets really competitive.

That would be rather interesting if botanist does have a role in actual battles. I could go on forever on the possibilities it could open lol.

I got harvesting up to 11 in the open beta. I really gathered A LOT of items in the process and as a gatherer the retainers are going to be needed. It is pretty easy to level and much fun if you are into it.

I'm at level 5 right now and I really enjoy being a botanist. I like that I am responsible if I don't get anything from logging. Actually takes some skills. I like that gathering herbs and all doesn't. Keeps it entertaining. If you wanna work you can log. If you dont want to get that involved you can just use your scythe. makes leveling so much more fun.

i have to tinker around on my frien's pc cause the game runs slow. Makes it difficult at times when logging. Hope we can actually do gardening. I am really happy with how the crafting and gathering is.
