If you played FFXII, you might remember the hunting missions you could accept from your clan. Here, things will work a little differently. While traversing Pulse, you'll stumble accros crystals, that upon touching them will reveal a memory and a certain monster that will be your target, if you happen to beat it, you'll complete the mission.
Of course, those monsters will be stronger than your regular foes, but beating them will yield materials and rare items for you. Missions can be completed multiple times, in order to obtain different "special badges".

I'm liking the sound of that. Hunts in FFXII were alright, but it was annoying having to go back and forth from the bill > mark > the people who posted it. Of course, that may have been the point (extending the experience). Sometimes it felt like a chore though. This new system might help make it feel less like a chore, and make it more fun. I wonder how the memories will work out? I'm guessing a black and white kind of flash back.
