All we have so far is Thaumaturge. That's not very much to go on! We already know that Summoners will not be playable (at least not from the get-go), so what do you think will be playable? Is there any magic class in particular you're hoping to see implemented? What should/shouldn't be a part of FFXIV?

:msnconfused:

I'm hoping Summoners will be availible to play eventually throughout the game, I really enjoyed that class on FFXI. Black mages would be a major addtion I'd love to see for FFXIV, I was insane for this job on FFXI! :D Tarutaru black mages were destructive..!

I think the usual healer class, buffer class and magic damage classes will be playable on initial release, but anything else I'm not really sure of! I hope we see a few familiar classes with improved statistics. Throwing any ideas around I'd say maybe: Necromancer? Blue Mage (again)? I can't really think of anything else right now... ; ;

Also, could they plan on releasing new classes via DLC? I hope they don't do that with original jobs, though... :3

In a way it almost seems best to keep thing simpler... so rather than several jobs that are similar, might there be many jobs that are much more varied?

There just might be more activities to do in XIV that XI never had! Here's hoping anyway.

I would like to see a mage class that is more like a warrior. I know ffxi had dark knight and paladin but they felt more like warriors with magic than mages that could fight. i didnt play many other classes so i dont how the ninja was. As i played paladin i couldnt sub white mage because i couldnt get a party and that irked me a little.

wait wait wait they took out the summoner class???? why that class was amazing and killing the avatars were so much fun to do and when you killed them you got them from that which felt like you accomplished something.... so what was the point of taking it out?!:msnuhoh:

Perhaps they have something else in mind? It could be similar or perhaps even better; we'll just have to wait and see! In the meantime, why not check out one of our earlier discussions about Summoners:

Anyway, getting back on topic...

How about something like an Arcane Warrior from Dragon Age? :sleepy:

Arcane warrior would be cool, also the templar I think would be a class better suited for FFXIV than Dragon age... an anti magic warrior sounds good doesn't it xD anyway back on topic..

It is a shame there will be no summoners at the start [maybe even never] or no pet classes at all but... what about a shapeshifter class? im [u]not[/i] still thinking about DA, i thought about this earlier xD It wouldn't be a pet class and it would be new wouldn't it.. I've not played ffxi but i've never heard of this kind of ability... It would be awesome to shapeshift into that adamantaimai[what ever the spelling] from the newish ffxiii scans xD

also, a necromancer would be amazing >_>

Well looking at previous classic FF jobs, there can be black mage, white mage, red mage, blue mage, summoner, bard, dancer, sage, can even throw in geomancer for kicks. There may be other jobs, but too lazy to look them up.

I really loved the way they did blue mage on FFXI, I really hope they have something similar to that. They haven't done geomancer on their previous MMORG, but if it's something like FF Tactics, it can be possible and quite interesting to see if done properly.

Summoners would be great, but I truly hope they do a much better job at it compared to FFXI's version which was mediocre healer with the exception of very few HNM's and BC's. I personally wanna use Bahamut and own monsters in the face with it!

I personally would love to see Red Mage brought back , not exactly the buffing/debuffing Red Mage that we all learned to love and hate from 11 but more so the jack of all trades sword wielding Red Mage that we were brought up on back in the day. I guess more so the Mystic Knight class. Decent physical damage , healing , damage , buff , debuff etc. A all around good soloing job. My main concern is that any "mage" job implemented into this game will be restricted to a staff / wand / fishing pole....etc. (No , i'm not serious about a fishing pole , but you get the idea). I understand that our job class will be determined by our weapon , but there must be more than just our weapon that gives us a certain title. I'm still under the assumption that in a way this will bring back quite a few memories of FF9 where your armor , accessory , and weapon will all jumble together and throw you into a general "title" which will then determine your role in a party . Or maybe i'm wrong and you simply select from whatever abilities you may have learned or leveled the most.........either way. I want a mage with a sword that CAN use a sword without TOO much controversy. Ever try subbing warrior with red mage and trying to get a party? Yeah , pretty tough , but done correctly it was a legitimate job =)

Further more , i always liked Mustadio from FFT , if they could somehow incorporate a "magic gun" much like he had , that would be pretty awesome.

Also , just to add , i know a few people have been arguing over the jobs that are stored in the DAT files of the beta. Square has already stated that more classes/jobs/titles will be released at server start and that not all of them are ready and or completely balanced yet. Yes they do intend on releasing more , they just want to keep us on our toes =) I'm banking on Mystic being a red mage sort of job and arcanist being some sort of pet class

They do seem to be missing a magic class with a more "feral" approach so that would be nice to see, shapeshifter, shaman etc. If they can find a way to balance out a sword wielding mage I would like to see that. Perhaps with the new combat system it will be more viable. I would like to see a summoner class but one that doesn't allow you to collect all the avatars before you even start leveling . It should be something you have to work for as you level. Seems they have most of the mage types already covered except a blue mage. I always liked those for the ability to mimic mob abilities. Oh and a Bard. I love Bards.

It slightly annoys me that there are 5 War but only 2 Magic at the moment. I want more choice :P

Yeah, I was kinda hoping that Arcanist or something would surface before release, but with the release date being so soon now, it doesn't seem all that likely anymore. Ah well. There will be more with version updates, at least.
