I'm sure many of us could practically write a book on our experiences in Final Fantasy XI. Let's take turns sharing a chapter from that book. Let's share our most memorable moments, whether they be funny, scary, surprising, etc. Anything is OK.

Who will kick things off?

Feel free to post pictures to accompany your tale.

I remember overbidding for some low level Bard song. I think it was Foe Requiem or something. The scroll was going for 1,000 but I accidentally laid in a bid at 100,000. At that time, I only actually had like 120,00 gil on my character so that mistake cost me almost ALL my money. I tried to send some tells to the guy that would find a random 100k in his delivery box, but he was japanese and didn't speak any english. Even through auto translate it was hard to communicate with him. Fortunately he was nice and sent me back the 100,000 gil. So I guess I ended up getting a free scroll of Foe Requiem.

Let's see... I remember I started as a Red Mage Taru, Windurst... Umm... I walked out the front gate and proceeded to attack a mandy with no weapon equipped and someone was telling me in whisper that I need to equip my weapon but I was too clueless and I died. Unlike the majority of the people I knew, I loved Valk Dunes, it was my favorite lowbie area...

One special memory I hold is popping sneak and invis, walking up to Vrtra, being teleported to his face and being eaten... Another is leveling Summoner, it was my first character I leveled past 31, I had to get all of my summons the hard way; solo. But that made it feel like a real achievement. Getting my Fenrir was pretty cool too but I had a group of high level Summoners to help me with that.

My favorite moment in the my whole experience was completing the entire main CoP chain, and watching that cut scene with that amazing song being played in the background, that was really great. I hope the missions in FFXIV are like that, taking real effort to complete, and not some simple line of quests, with a boss on the side.

Favorite memory was beating Alexander with some terrible setup DRG (me), NIN, BLM, WHM, SMN, BLM or something like that... after he went down I had this huge smile on my face and did some fist pumps. Also fun was having LS wipe time and again to AV.

Its definately a tie between three memories for me. My two "Veteran" moments would be the day I finished CoP(Having the story FINALLY make sense, along with the music, and knowing I was finally getting my Tamas ring) and they day I got my first piece of sky gear. Man I felt like such a pimp walking around with my Zenith mitts on.

My noob memory would definately be when I first started as a Taru WAR. I got an invite to the dunes to tank. I finally find my way there after an LS mate escorted me to the boats in bubu. I get to the group and they explain to me what Ill be doing. First pull I provoke like they told me and not fully understanding what I was doing I take off running while typing "Omg, what the hell guys? You told me to provoke and now its beating the crap out of me!" Haha

The best noob experience I had was entering Castle Zvahl for the first time with a party under level 60 and fighting our way to the Shadowlord. We spent all night climbing that castle and took so many wrong turns. The atmosphere, the trains of mobs, the blood we spilled. Good times.

Fighting Alexander was amazing as well. I was crushed over a dozen times and then ended up defeating him on Lightsday without wiping once. We had an amazing Paladin to thank for that. We were really really close to losing but Diabolos ended up getting the finishing blow. Good boy!

Like others have mentioned CoP had some great memories as well. All of those fights took careful planning and brought on great feelings of accomplishment. I participated in a static party after Chapter 3. Summoner worked so well for all those fights. My greatest moment was fighting that 45 second Ice Bomb. With four party members defeated and only seconds remaining Ifrit nailed him with a second Inferno for the win.

Finally, the greatest fight ever was against Carbuncle Prime in the quest "Waking the Beast." Five Carbuncles and 6 Celestial Primes vs. 18 Summoners. Doesn't get much better then that.

Everytime around Halloween, I feel like playing FFXI again. I think it's because the first day I played was right around halloween. Just remembering how much fun the game was, but how I didn't understand it. I followed FF games like crazy, and didn't want to miss out on FFXI but it was my first MMO.

Some of the best moments was soloing things that most people found difficult. I remember for the most part soloing rank 5 and getting my airship pass. Getting to sky for the first time was pretty sweet. Exploring around high level areas by myself was amazing.

Oh! Beating Maat on my third try as RDM. He totally schooled me the first and second time. It was so bad, I thought it was going to be impossible to beat Maat. The third time was nearly a breeze. I remember forming mining parties and going into Palborough mines and coming out with 200K back when 200K was a lot. I think I got like 6 platinum ores in 2 hours.

Yeah... I really want to play again. For all its problems and difficulties... FFXI was a gem of a MMO. I was thinking of playing WoW just because it's easier with such a hectic lifestyle that I lead, but FFXI will always be near and dear to me.

FFXI was my first MMO too, and I'll always remember how fun it was when I first started out.

I had most of my good times when I joined my first endgame LS and we started out with lower end activities. It was great when everyone pulled in and did a good job, rewarding people. It was fun back in those days when beating Genbu was a great acomplishment. :)

My LS never had that many events going all the time either, so people got to relax and do what they wanted to do for a change. Mostly our LS would do other events together if memebers organised them, but it was entirely up to those people.

I had a lot of fun soloing as BLM too. I used to solo quite a few NM's, one was the Lv.95ish Quadav from Beadaux (I think that's spelt correctly, lol). I never got the drop from him out of the whole 9 times I killed him lol, but that's the fun of it all I guess. XD

Ah... FFXI was fun when I really think about it! :msnlaugh:

first of all it was my first MMO, so i regard it as my favorite even though a bunch of things bug me about it.

but my greatest moment was after farming yagudo necklaces for days and days and days and days, I finally got my utsusemi: ichi scroll and I sold it on the AH for 1,000,000. When I saw that number in my wallet, I flipped out!

You guys can mention more than one instance.

I remember when i first started playing, i had to get my magicked skull and in valkum dunes
its super rare to get in the dunes, you guys know!, anywho we and my bud saw this lvl 45 thf
and she asked us if we needed help, she brought us to the gusten mines, and got us the skulls
while kicking some major a!!, It was the reason why i became a thf cause of her. one of my few
memories that i fond of =].

Anyone else?

Oh wow where to start....... The very first memory i can think of was getting lost in bastok figuring out where do i kill stuff. Then the next was where was my starting weapon was at. After couple hours of being totally lost I had a japanese guy help me out as when i started only rise of the zilart or how ever you spell it was out.Getting level 10 was nice as a thief I headed to the dunes and that was probally some of the best times ever. Getting your sub class quest or trying to get a emperor hairpin. Then after that it was juno and being killed by those stupid worms. Then another good one was unlocking the other jobs i did DRK. First figured a thf sub job would be nice but after 60 drk class was looked over by partys so i leveled a warrior to 30 then did paladin and never looked back. The best moment was dinging to 75 for the first time and getting a bad pull and a hour later getting it back.

Was level 16 near some desert thing, I was waiting to take a boat back Juno. I finally got on the boat and honestly had no idea what I was doing so I stood out on the deck, suddenly a giant monster appears and kills me instantly, I de-leveled and got teleported back to where I was before.

At that point I honestly threw the controller across the room and didn't play again for almost a week.
