If you own a PS3 then it is more than likely that you have heard of the game Heavy Rain, which is being developed exclusively for the system by Quantic Dreams.

For more detailed information on this game, check out the Wikipedia Link.

I have been following the game for a while now, although I haven't been watching the latest videos, as to avoid more spoilers.

The game revolves around 4 playable characters, and you will control these characters through "scenes" ie Quick Time Events. If 1 of the characters die then the story will still continue.

The story is based around
Spoiler
. So...pretty deep stuff right there.

I have pre-ordered the Collectors Edition of this game (which is only releasing in Europe) because I believe this game (often being referred to online as an "Interactive Movie") has potential. Then again, it could be an epic failure. Even so, I am supporting the developer, as this is something new and refreshing.

Has anybody else been following this game? If so, what are your opinions?

My opionion:

The game is going to be a good "experience". Whether it could be called gaming is a different matter altogether, but the motion capture that has been used, as well as the character models, look stunning. Very realistic.

I know the game contains Nudity (both male and female) which blatantly tells us that this game is being geared towards a more mature audience. I really thought that it would be rated 18 here in the UK, but I'm surprised to find out that it's only been given a 15 rating, and won't be censored in anyway.

The game itself has been given a US release date of 23rd February, with an EU release date to be set shortly.

I really enjoyed Indigo Prophecy, the spiritual predecessor to Heavy Rain, so I KNOW this will be fantastic.

As for spoilers, I'm now avoiding them completely..

Yeah, I've heard that Indigo Prophecy (or Farenheit, whatever) was a very good game. I never had the chance to play it though. Glad you enjoyed it!

And it is best to avoid spoilers now, seeing that the game is so close to launch!

I can see it now though; this game is hardly going to shift any copies.

EDIT: Heavy Rain will be launcing in mainland Europe on the 24th February, and the UK and Ireland on the 26th.

WHY HASN'T THIS TOPIC GOT MORE COMMENTS?!

Heavy Rain is stunning, with an absolutely fantastic narrative structure. I urge anyone with a PS3 to purchase this, as it really is a one of a kind experience. Don't approach it as a game, though. Be open minded.

I've completed the game twice now, and there are still many endings that I have yet to see!

I'm hoping for more people to comment on this thread, so if you have a PS3...buy it. Or at least rent it!

I concur.. It's fantastic! Go experience it now! :onion91:

Support Interactive Cinema!

It's shifted more copies than I bet you thought.. enough to be considered a great success, even in Japan (particularly for a Western game)

Yea, last I heard it shifted 500,000 copies worldwide! Hopefully that will reach 1 million, maybe even more! I was expecting this to sell next to nothing...glad that I was proven wrong!

And that's why the game is selling...SONY are actually ADVERTISING the game in the UK! Other than Uncharted 2 they never really do this. Saying this I haven't seen a Heavy Rain advert for a while, whereas Uncharted 2 was advertised all the time, even at the cinema! *shock*

But Quinn, after your RPG fix I suggest that you try this out! It will give your brain a rest from all the number crunching, and instead immerse you in a dramatic story driven by quick time events, and realistic characters!

I really hope you enjoy this game, Quinn! You'll have to let me know your thoughts on it :D I haven't played it for over 3 weeks, as I've been busy playing FFXIII! But now that I've completed it I may go back and continue with my third play through of this game! It's really a one of a kind game, although I'm sure the success of Heavy Rain will spawn a lot more games like this over the next coming years.

Well I went out at the weekend and ended up buying a clip on PS3 keyboard so I can talk easier in White knight chronicles and also when i'm in home though I rarely go on home...

anyway watched my brother play Heavy Rain for the first time yesterday...intresting looking game i'll say that much..though I didn't like that he HAD to play as 4 different people..that just annoyed me because I didn't like 2 of the characters.

Now hes finished the game last night he's going to let me borrow it so no need to buy it yay. No idea when i'm going to play it though because I won a copy of FFXIII the other day so now I have that to go on when I've got nothing else to do..i'm still seriously sceptical about it but it was dirt cheap for brand new sealed copy...couldn't resist a sqaure enix title.

The characters will grow on you.

Definitely make some time for it.. it's not a terribly long game, so it's worth sitting through a few play sessions even if you're not completely crazy about it. :)

So last night I got around to updating my copy of Heavy Rain to make it Move compatible! First thoughts? This game is MADE for motion controllers! The gameplay is much more intuitive, and you really feel much more involved in the fight scenes and interactions.

No longer do you have to walk with R2 (or was it L2?). Instead, you can navigate around with the left anologue stick on the Dual Shock 3 or Navigation controller. You can look around by moving the Move controller left or right (which was previously used to turn your head to face the direction in which to move).

As I was previously saying, the interactions are more intuitive than before. Opening a door? Reach forward with the Move controller to grab the handle, and pull back to open. Turning a tap? Twist your wrist. Brushing your teeth? Hold the Move controller horizontally on it's side and move it rapidly from side to side.

I only played the game for an hour or so but the game feels fresh, even though I've previously completed it twice already!

What I'm saying here is if you still haven't experienced Heavy Rain (shame on you) then NOW is the time to do so. Grab a copy of Heavy Rain, a Move Starter pack (or controller on its own of you already have a PlayStation Eye) and GO!
