Eorzea... I hope you don't mind me posting this... :msndoubtful:

I'm not really sure how, but let's do what we can to bring some more activity to this place! For example, using places like StumbleUpon and Digg would be a good start... and telling our friends is always a good option!

One of the easiest things we can do is start more threads!

Oh! And linking to the site in our forum signatures at other gaming sites we participate at. That no doubt helps as well!

But DON'T make threads at other sites just to spam this site's link... it will likely piss people off more than help. Keep it casual... link to sections of the site with useful information when people ask for it... that kind of thing.

Those are just some ideas I had. Please add to the list and let's do what we can to help spread the word! I want to see this place do well.

Those are all some good methods, I've been doing some of that now and then too, although I don't know how much it's helped. I also have this site in all my sigs on every other site that I visit. The biggest thing though is not to spam this site anywhere, we don't want to give this place a bad name. But I do think it has been picking up around here lately, so hopefully that continues. And with the new forum software coming in the future, that will hopefully bring even more members, or maybe make the difference of a regular 'guest' of the site to actually sign up.

I visited the site on my bro's netbook yesterday, from yahoo. and something strange happened..

Every time I tried to enter the site, I was redirected to another site entirely.. I cliked on ff14site.com link in yahoo search results, and I was taken to Gametrailers.com .. What the heck? There was also some generic gaming site I was being routed to.. I couldn't get in! I had to open an old email and click on the direct link from Eorzea to enter the site.

I didn't have this problem on my own computer, from yahoo.. So I'm not sure if it was some odd occurrence, or if many others are experiencing this too. I don't know how to explain it, but I swear clicking on search result links FOR THIS SITE, was routing me to completely different websites.

I don't mind at all, Hydaelyn. It's actually very much appreciated! I'm also glad that it crossed your mind to mention that simply spamming other sites with our link is inappropriate. That's not the kind of thing I want this community to be known for.

Hopefully the new forum software will help, yes.

Momotaru, I have no idea. My guess is that it was some freak incident or that the link wasn't really to ff14site but instead had ff14site.com written in one of GameTrailers.com comment sections and was therefore picked up by the search engine. :msnconfused:

That's possible.. It could be something in his cookies too.. I might have actually typed in ff14site.com and was not brought here.

I'll have to check it out again when I'm over there.

I just wanted to revive this topic a bit. Hydaelyn had some good ideas and we really need to get the word out about this new site. Perhaps the front page and lack of content isn't all that appealing at the moment, but it's only temporary; if people take a moment to look around and get a feel for things I think they will see the potential and all that's to come in the not-so-distant future.

Telling people you know in real life who are interested in FF(XIV) would work especially well (as was already suggested).

:)

Wow, this threads more than a year old now! Time flies, huh? I think we're doing our best to try and promote this site now. What with Twitter, the odd N4G article etc. I think it's hard for us to do anymore than this --- there's the bigger sites that we're contending with, and it will be hard to get close to the numbers they've pulled in. Of course Square Enix have also launched the official FFXIV forums now, and that's bound to have a knock on effect. The biggest problem of all though is probably due to the fact that FFXIV hasn't performed anywhere near as well as anyone had hoped, and the general lack of interest around the game as a whole --- we can't do anything about that. Maybe when...or should I say IF FFXIV launches on PS3 we'll be in with another chance of pulling more people in. Until then all we can do is make the threads, promote the forum features we have (such as databases) and stay positive!

Yes, that's a pretty accuruate summation of what's going on. Many FFXIV fansites have died off, while only a few continue to maintain respectable activity. To be honest, FFXIV made such a bad first impression on people that I don't know if it will ever quite recover. They may have one more chance with the PS3 launch and (likely) corresponding expansion pack, but that's still a ways down the road. Add the official forums on top of that and it doesn't bode well for our forum activity.

As it is, I hope to restructure things eventually and put less of an emphasis on the database (at least until things are more set in stone).

For now... new threads go a long ways. People tend to be reluctant to create new threads, but when someone else does they usually respond.

And yeah, social networking helps. Join our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter, etc. Adding one of our banners in your forum signatures elsewhere is also beneficial.

I must have missed some of those comments! :P
