The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver are only a couple of weeks away, so we may as well have a thread dedicated to its discussion.

I'm actually not such a big fan of the Olympics, but that's beside the point.

I was a bit disappointed that Sasha Cohen wasn't able to make the cut and have one more shot at gold after her disappointing silver medal finish four years ago. She almost certainly wouldn't have won anyway, but it would have been nice to see her given the opportunity.

Though not really the Olympics, did anyone see Shaun White's crash during his practice run at the X Games recently? Ouch! He's an amazing athlete. I'm glad he's not seriously injured:

Youch! He's probably less worried about any physical injury than missing his chance for a better score. That might be the real pain here.

Divine justice for releasing a second mediocre snowboarding game?

Just kidding, Shaun. :msnwink:

I almost never watch any TV unless I'm visiting family or friends. And yesterday I was watching it at my Uncles and in HD! It was beautiful, specailly the slow motion replays. I watched Canada win their 1st Gold too, rather exciting. It almost got me hooked, too bad I still don't watch much TV.

Yeah, I've found myself getting into the Olympics a lot more than I orginally thought I would. It really is an event to be appreciated (the world coming together to compete for their countries). It's too bad about the tragic death of Nodar Kumaritashvili when he flew off the Luge course and smashed into a metal pole. Horrifying.

On a brighter note, I love that Apolo Anton Ohno managed to get a silver medal in the 1,500m (speedskating). He's pretty easy to cheer for.

I just finished watching the final round of men's figure skating (all of my coworkers were surrounding the television in the teacher's room during lunch break to cheer for Daisuke Takahashi while I was pulling for Weir and Lysacek).

Results:
1. Evan Lysacek
2. Evgeni Plushenko
3. Daisuke Takahashi

It seems all of us were able to be happy with the resuls. :D

Yeah I was watching it too, Evan Lysacek did a Great job, we turned it off early and before we even saw his score. But I could tell it was a 1st place performance.

Apolo Anton Ohno fought from behind in the 1,000m to take bronze and become the most decorated U.S. winter Olympian in history with his seventh medal.

Apolo was really kicking himself about his slip. In an interview shortly after the event he kept mentioning it but tried to stay positive at the same time. haha Thought it was interesting. He did well and recovered well.

Haven't watched any this year, though I watched a bunch of events of the last Olympics.

And then there's this, which is classic...

Well, South Korea's Kim Yu-na took the gold in women's figure skating with a record-shattering 228.56 points. Japan's Mao Asada took silver and Canada's Joannie Rochette took bronze.

This is only the second time America hasn't left with a medal in this event since 1952.

I haven't seen their final skates yet, but I plan to watch them later on tonight.

;)

Well, the 2010 Winter Olympics are over.

Canada defeated USA for hockey gold in OT (3-2) to wrap things up.

Everything sure seemed to come and go rather quickly. I can't believe it's already over.

Yeah, I'm sure going to miss the olympics. I really enjoy them thoroughly, as it's only every 4 years that we get to experience them. Now it's time to wait for the World Cup!
