This probably would relate to Xbox360 as well if gets released. I know during FFXI people on PC used other means of communication such as instant msngr, or ventrillo..etc. But with the PS2, it was all type. No voice chat at all. Understanding that it would be hard with people with differ languages, but do u think FFXIV will have something similar to a LS? And have the differ commands for typing? ie: /tell, /shout, /party...etc. As im sure it will have some communication to this effect, but what I would like to see is Voice chat. Where a LS is kinda like a chatroom of sorts. Just wondering, if anyone has heard anything on communication's, and if u own a PS3 would u like to see some sort of voice chat? Have any ideas or speculation on how this would or could work?

Good idea deff! 360 would make it easy to chat because of the party app. PS3 I don't think yet has that ability...Have to put some thought into the PS3 or PC version on release...

Personally, I don't think I want to hear human gamer voices attached to FFXIV characters. I'm not sure it would totally break the illusion, but it'd be pretty silly at all times.. I might be able to be convinced otherwise, but I'd be fine with text chat..

Unless I was playing with close friends or family, I'm not really interested in it.

Did we have a poll on this? I'd like to see everyone's input in the matter.. Whether voice chat is relevant for the game, and whether it's something they would like implemented.

I think we had a topic about in-game voice chat... let me see if I can find it...

Here it is!

That was a long time ago, but still relevant. Merge threads? Or maybe not. :P

I rarely use my headset whilst playing online on my PS3! So I doubt I would use it much for FFXIV. Hmm, but I suppose it would be much easier than typing messages all the time. Still, I don't have a problem with typing at all. However, I guess typing on PS3 would deter more from the action than if you were typing whilst playing the game via PC, due to the fact that you will physically have to let go of the controller to type on the keyboard, whereas you will be using the keyboard for most things on PC.

I personally wouldn't mind using Ventrillo or Skype if chatting was necessary. I've adapted myself pretty well to playing on PS2 using a controller & keyboard and having my laptop w/ Ventrillo running next to me. Just need to remember which key is your push to talk and you're all set.

If having the ability to not add voice chat in order to save bandwidth for less lag, I'll be more than happy with that. Though if they can somehow pull it off correctly, I'm also up for it.

After years of sitting hunched over a computer doing work/homework, I just cant stand it anymore. Ive learn to hate it, not to mention updating your graphics card to keep up.

Im waiting for the PS3 beta test, im extremely excited for this game due to the lack of feeling rushed when your playing WOW. FF XI seemed extremely relaxing and fun.

But I think its time to give up Vent, I finally want a console RPG that uses voice chat. And I know it might be odd to some talking to a guy while his avatar is a girl... but if u have ever play WOW, and get to the end game play; then its very common.

I think adding the voice chat as a group function would work, but then again Beoulve lag issues would probably be a problem... PS3 Network is free.. and has almost no support compared to XBOX live

Another random question to add to this thread this being PS3 and all... You guys happen to know if I can plug in any USB keyboard to a PS3 and have it function properly? I know my PS2 was plug and play w/ pretty much any keyboard I threw at it.

Yes, I've got the same keyboard I used for FFXI on PS2 hooked up to my PS3 at all times. No problemo!

I actually have a wireless keyboard (and mouse) plugged into my PS3 which i find quite cool as, if I wanted to use it on my laptop.. it would require installing using CDs that came with it... Seems they made the PS3 compatible with a wide range of keyboards and other accessories (my friend can charge his phone with his PS3..)

So yeah, as Momo beat me in saying~ your keyboard should work with the ps3 and function just aswell as it did with your PS3. thinking about it, It's a little better as you can easily use the keyboard to navigate though the menu of the PS3 so they have obviously put some thought into the use of keyboards which is nice =D

Like someone above me pointed out, on ps2 I use ventrillo on my laptop and play. So if needed I would do that with my soon to be ps3.

I thought I read somewhere that Sony are trying to implement something closer to Microsoft's party play app, could be just one of many concepts surrounding the paid subscription model they have in mind though.
As good as that would be, I can't say I'd make use of it. I plan to get a wireless keyboard for my PS3 and just do a controller/keyboard combo. If I feel the need to chat beyond text, my laptop is always near by for msn or any other app that may be introduced to me down the line.

On a side note: Val, which wireless keyboard set are you using?
