Marauder Speculation anyone?

Ok, so based on the name, and the lack of an obvious class to fit the bill, does anyone else think that it is possible that "Marauder" may just be the codename for thief? I mean its not written in stone that he has to use an axe, right? And plenty of roguish types use things other than daggers, its easier to scare someone into handing over the gil with a giant axe than a wee little blade. But by utilization of the new armory system, you switch from that big bulky axe to a slim sleek assassins best friend and BAM! you now have all the backstabbing capabilities you were expecting!
This would be similar to the gladiator trading out his tank role for DD by tucking away the shield and grabbing a bigger sword. Does this seem likely to anyone else? or am i being completely ridiculous?

Marauder: -
"to roam about and raid in search of plunder"
"raid, pillage"
"to raid or pillage for spoils"
"to rove in search of plunder; make raids"
most of you might have already done this and know all of this...but I didn't and thought it would be intresting to look up the definition of the name of the job class....so i'm kinda thinking that it might be more theif class and maybe even corsair? as it refers to pirates as being Marauder.
I'm really hoping its not Corsair as i'd miss guns and the uber style pirate outfit, also I really hope its not thief as you have to have axe? so no chance of having daggers then? I haven't really reasearched this job much...and i'm really sorry if i've just stated something thats obviously wrong ._.
Anyway thats my contribution of what I found out about the NAME of the job. Hope this maybe kinda helps a little

You see, I think Squeenix is hiding something from us. Those being, like specific classes. There's no way in hell there are this few classes. You can't go from a successful game in which people liked the variety of class, to just throwing that idea out and saying hey, let's make it more simple. Simplicity is what killed WoW for me, enabling little 12 year olds to manage a game that I thought was of a higher echelon. I was mistaken. Squeenix did admit that they wanted to simplify some aspects to appeal to a wider demographic, but I certainly hope this was not the answer. I need to see more unique classes arise. And most of all, I want to see my paladin, not some Guardian who 'probably' can't be self reliant for sh*t
Either way, there is much open for speculation still, and as I've said in other posts, the lack of info opens the door for that greatly.

So to reiterate. I think marauders will be the umbrella term used to describe the genre of "people who steal sh*t." Just as how gladiators can either hit things hard or hold a shield and be struck repeatedly with few negative consequences. Each "class" has to have sub classes, unless squeenix wants to ruin this game from the start, and i don't see that as something they would want to do.
Marauder+axe=Mugger Marauder+dagger=Thief
Thats what i think at least. And who knows what other goodies they'll give us for weapons, i know whips were mentioned somewhere else in regards to the "Beast Master" class some of us are hoping for, maybe if a Marauder character is holding a Hammer or flail he becomes even less like a thief, only time can tell for certain.

To steal something tends to imply they are after one thing or several things. Pillaging implies they are taking everything.
So I think we're looking at more of a warrior class then a thief class. Especially with how SE showed them off, I think we'll see a thief class but I'm not sure this is it.
Edit: Also, Corsair's was a french name given to pirates. Pirates/Marauders dffer in context also. I think a Marauder would be more akin to Vikings then Pirates.

I imagine the name may be semi-inspired from the definition, but his role will be purely an aggressive one toward monsters.
He's more like an elite guard than a viking/barbarian, mugger. I'm sure he'll have aggressive and strong techniques, though.. Maybe even get monsters to drop more loot, if you think the plunder/thieving in the definition ought to come into play.

I guess i don't want the war discipline to be full of damage dealers and one tank. I want to have some sort of finesse for at least some of them. So far it seems that each of them is "I hit hard with *weapon of choice*" As far as i see it unless each and every job in each of the disciplines has a way to fight then there's a lot of holes. No summoner, thief, Paladin, etc etc etc etc.

I can agree with this, perhaps it would be more of a... head hitter. Maybe reminiscent of steiner or Aerun or whatever his name is spelled lol. Who used break techniques, if that makes sense? Perhaps even like a, 'Grip break' or 'Will break' to make them less likely to hold on to their items?

Not even saying "Sora, Donald, Goofy" can make this guy any less of a hard arse.
I like your description, Tempestkin.
Can you just imagine a party of stern faced Marauders? What an intimidating bunch they would be!

Check last year's trailer
..well, 3 seconds of one... but it's as wholesome as three axe strikes can get!
Between 0:29 and 0:31.
The quality is better here: or on the official site.
Is anyone enlightened? Any new opinions?
