so whilst sifting through screen shots again i noticed something that didnt really strike me as odd the first time, but now i realize its extremely odd.
There are giant buildings in one of the images that look like Mako reactors. This is extremely odd to me, is Shinra branching out? Finally get that space program up and running? Am i the only one who thinks it's odd?

Which pic are you speaking of?
It was said that the XIV world would be somewhat more technological, or advanced... or at least that it would have some cities with advanced technology.
We've also seen those flying machines, which must come from an impressive city.
Gargh.. Need... more.... INFO!

I'm guessing he is referring to this picture?

My apologies for not having our FFXIV images back up on the main site yet. Soon!

Hmm... it will be interesting to see how those effect the game, and how they will be implemented...

If they are to resurge the FFVII ideas of Mako reactors and such, I wouldn't be opposed

i really doubt that they are mako reactors they are probably jus something from the more advance civilizations that will probably be in the expansions that final fantasy is so famous for.

Right, so if aetheryte can be used as power then it's Mako with a different name, that's kind of what i was getting at with my original post. Did you guys really think i thought it was mako? lol of course not, but it looks similar so i made the connection. I was just pointing out that they were recycling one of the old ideas from another one great game,
The Makoyte idea is pretty solid i think. As for the advanced race thing? well they did say that an ancient race did fun stuff with the aetheryte but i don't think the "reactors" are from them, the time line proposed wouldn't allow machinery to be running for that long, and those things looked pretty mechanical and not so magical.

Nah, we're on the same page.
Final Fantasy often carries such a theme.. drawing energy out of the Earth, usually to a point where it is dangerous.
Eorzea is considered a new frontier. I imagine in this world, there's plenty of Aetheryte to spare and abusing resources won't be a strong theme.

What do you all think the people who maintain these "power plants" use it for? Are they powering cities? Or powering the war factories to make those winged towers from the trailer? or something much more interesting?

its also possible that these machines are device of the empire mentioned in the story on the offical site. it would fit that the villians abused the earth for power
Yoohohohohoo!
