ALPHA TEST
This information was already updated in our VanaFest 2010 has arrived! thread, but it's likely that amongst all the hype some of you may have glanced over it:

As many of you may know (whether it be firsthand or otherwise), e-mails have been sent out for the first wave of alpha testers. Yes, alpha testers, not beta testers. Current recipients of the e-mail will be participating in the Alpha Test, which will be taking place prior to the launch of the Beta Test. During this phase, emphasis will be placed on testing of general game content and system balance.

Those who received the notifications will be able to access the official tester site when it goes live on March 11. The URL differs by region:

To those who received the holy grail of e-mails, congratulations! To those who didn't, don't let it get you down too much. Everyone will get their chance eventually. To quote Square Enix:

Quote

Those who were not selected in this drawing, fear not, for there will be other opportunities to come. Be sure to stay tuned!

NOTE:
Be wary of scams. To verify the legitimacy of your e-mail invite, please be sure that it was sent from ffxiv-noreply@square-enix.com

Also note that it goes against the NDA to actually state whether or not you've been invited into the alpha/beta, but there's no reason you can't say that you didn't receive an invite.

For reference, Square Enix's NDA can be found at:

Wow, I can't believe you are not allowed to say that you were chosen for the alpha or beta! Tight security!!!

On the other hand....
We know that anyone who went to Vanafest got an invite for the beta...
and they didn't say you couldn't say that you were at Vanafest...

so THERE!!! LOOPHOLE!!! hahahahah, gotcha Squeenix!

IN OTHER WORDS, YOU MAY NOT POST OR PUBLISH IN ANY WAY YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE BETA TEST OR YOUR OPINION OF THE NON-RETAIL VERSION OF FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE.

I don't see anything in the agreement about emoticons! Illustrate us your feelings on this subject oh lucky Alpha testers.

But we have known ever since the beta applications opened that this NDA would be in effect; it shouldn't come as a shock. ;)

Anyway, just because we won't support the breaking of the NDA doesn't mean that information and videos won't surface somewhere; of course they will. We have nothing to benefit by being one of those sites, though (other than dirty traffic). The NDA is a law-binding agreement and breaking it could theoretically result in legal action being taken against those who do so (though the likely punishment for an individual is the termination of his or her account). The last thing this community wants/needs is Square Enix coming after us and/or a bad reputation for blatantly disregarding the NDA.

Ahh.. So maybe the game isn't as far along as we hoped. :(

Oh well... It will be done, when it's done. Asking for it sooner isn't of any help.

yeah ur right momo, well just to make u feel better, the same guy that told my friend about all the FFXI changes and FXIV info (before the vanafest), said that FFXIV is going to have a alpha only because theres too many bugs still and they want feedback and help finding them.
Lets just hope that all teh alpha testers play their ass off so they can find the bugs asap

Grats to those whom where chosen!!! BOOHOO NOT ME!!!
I really respect SE wishes and the NDA contract. I will be the first to report any one who posts any info to eorza that is breaking that contract. I dont agree with it and think that eorza and other members here would also disagree. There is a reason for it and its cause mainly i think that content will change. The testers are there to push the limits of the mechanics so that they can fix all the bugs. Not to start a wave of false or bad info in the or about the game.
Violence is not the ONLY solution, but it is a solution!

Well, the first wave of alpha/beta testing hasn't even started yet. ;)

No one knows when the next wave of e-mails will be sent out. Only time will tell.
