I would come back if it is free. But I dont see that happen. I want to come back now but I think my money would be better spent by saveing it up for ff14 so I don't have to worry about any payments for about a year.
If FFXI became F2P... ...would you go back?

It may be free - but that doesnt change the game or my gameplay. I would leave after a few weeks if not days. Not to mention all the updating from scratch.
I need something new to get in interest. I tried to go back to AoC but it was just the same and I wont pay to stand around as an alt whilst everyone played their lvl 80s... or stand around as my lvl 80 because people only ever raided after 10pm and did nothing during the time I was on line.

I love this thread. It is such an interesting question to ask.
I would deff go back to FFXI. I do think it would in the beginning be over whelmed with immature players but they would be quickly weeded out. Because let’s face it, FFXI is not a game for everyone. I do miss playing it but my time is consumed by others things and would much rather visit FFXI then start leasing property there again with a monthly subscription.
I do think however it would open the game up to a lot of new players for sure. People on the 360 who refused to play an MMO they’d have to pay additional money for and the casual gamer looking for a new trick to try. Though at this point in FFXI and with FFIVX on it's way it could disrupt sales of both games to severely to do F2P. I love the idea and would be there back on my character and mule in no time.

I'm shocked and amazed that these responses are not only reasonable but largely favorable to F2P. In some internet circles I run in there's a lot of resistance and even hate towards the model. So this is cool to see!
I would go back in an instant too, I may go back to it anyway before the year is out and if FFXIV doesn't launch in December. For some reason every Holiday season I HAVE to play FFXI, maybe it's their decorations and Jeuno music... ;D

There's nothing that could make me play it again, it was too hard to start out completely new a few years ago when I tried to get back into it. Besides xiv is right around the corner and I'd much rather play that. So I'm the only one who voted the bottom option lol.

I'd go back because it is a fun game to play I'm hoping they will go free to play in a couple of years. That way XI can be around for a while longer.

I think it'd be great if it went F2P. I'm a current subscriber anyway but once XIV becomes established I think it's a great way to keep in touch with the game. I'm a lifetime subber to LOTRO and that's going F2P soon and I get a few perks thrown in, so that's nice. Heck, I even installed EQ2 as that's F2P now aswell, so that just leaves DDO. lol F2P takes the guilt out of paying but not playing multiple MMOs. You can always keep up your VIP/Gold option in your current MMO of choice.
