The ending of the story line. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

If you're still playing there are NPCs which you can view previous cutscenes if you missed part of the story. I'd have to rewatch some of the cutscenes myself to remember what happens since it's been a long time that I finished all of those.
Edit: And... I haven't been on FFXI in a year.

The Ace Cardians are out of control and threaten to destroy Windurst. On behalf of the Star Sibyl Ajido-Marujido and your party defeat them inside the Full Moon Fountain along with the insane creatures they summon.
After the Shadowlord is defeated the Orcs are still gaining greater numbers and stronger equipment. With San d'Orias future on the line the two Royal Princes finally put their grudges aside and send the entire Elvaan army to attack Fei'Yin. Prince Trion and your party defeat the Orc Warlord.
Rumors turn true in Bastok as Zeid (the Shadowlord) appears to still be alive. The Musketeers are in a panic. You and Volker end up confronting Zeid inside Castle Zvhal Keep and finish him for good.
This is just the basics as I really can't remember exactly what happened five years ago. I remember enjoying Windurst's story the most out the three Nations. However, Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promethia, and the Treausres of Aht Urgan stories were far superior.

Side effects may include: dry mouth, nausea, painful rectal itch, hallucination, and death.
Summoning is not for everyone. Consult your doctor before use.

Now that makes sense, i never realized why people wanted to do all missions of all the nations...

Completing CoP gets you a good choice of rings to choose from and completing ToAU has a different set of free rings as well.

Wow, thanks a lot for this! Started watching some of it today.
I really wished I could have experienced all of this myself while I was still playing, so this is a fantastic resource.
