Now that we have nice new image to mull over, let's focus on the interface.

What are your initial thoughts/impressions?
Yes, we saw the interface at GAMESCOM 2009, but this appears to be a bit more fleshed out.
Are you a fan of the "transparent" look? Apparently everything will be able to be moved as you see fit, so that will be a nice change.

Interface looks pretty clean to me. Wonder what that send / receive thing means, might depict something about damage.

lol my friend the send and recieve comes right from FFXI, it is essentially your ping broken up into two sets. One, so you can know if the server is lagging, and two to know if your lagging.
Don't blame FFXIV when you drop out of school and live at home with ma and pa.

oooooooo YAY!!! transparent now I'll be able to see if theres a taru taru next to me o_o

I so love the idea you can move the different interfaces around...hmmm I wonder if your have to move them around each time you log in or if you can set it as defult so when you log in the interfaces are in the places you want them without having to move them again.

Not that it would take more then 30secs to move them out the way again...but by this time I might of logged in and whilst i'm standing there moving my inferaces around ....I could of well...uhhh...squished a taru with my elvaan lankyness rofl..

anyway loving the look of the interfaces and that it seems the skills are shortcuted to the bottom of the screen so no more hitting the wrong macro in a moment of panic in a besgied or scrolling though thousands of blm spells just to get to my Quake spells mwhahahahaha ^_^

Also looks like a Pugilist in her fine glory there.

Hey that Pugilist has MP, will everyone have MP this time around?

I like the interface, though just not the position of the health bars and such, good thing they can be moved :galka:

But I have to ask, what is that bar above the "Target" bar?

I saw that bar above the target bar...I think it has something to do with the skills..as the picture to the left of the bar is the same picture in the bottom inferace bar which I assume is the skill bar...looks to be like the picture is some sort of "orange aura" and shes got a orange aura around her...

imo when you hit a skill it has a certain amount of time before it runs out...like in FFXI when you hit say a Job abilty or a 2 hour it had a certain amount of time before your JA would run out like fast casting as a RDM 2hour smack out as many spells as you can, but you never knew how much time you had left until the JA or 2 hour ran out...

So I think its a skill/ability timer so you can actually see this time how long you have before your skill/ability is going to wear off....mmm also this makes me wonder will you be able to do combos with other people? like a magic burst skillchains etcetc... would be nice to see how much time I have to do a skillchain with someone without having to count in my head..

holy crickey thats alot of writing.... :onion62:

The things in this screenshot are absolutely wicked!
:o
What's more, is that they're right outside of LimsaLominsa... they're either surprisingly weak or anywhere outside the city boundary is fair game for DEATH!

Does anyone who is playing beta know if there is some sort of option to adjust the opacity of the chat window? I never really liked the idea of a transparent chat window because sometimes it can be kinda hard to see the text against the background. If you can adjust the opacity, like in most other MMOs, then that would be great. Aion didn't include this option, and Aion can jump off a building.

Well, the alpha tests just started today, so it's possible we could find out soon, though all players participating in the alpha/beta are legally sworn to not divulge such info.

I'd imagine there will be supple variety in window customization, just as there is in general with the interface.

I'm not sure what all the symbols mean, but it looks delicious enough to play!
Personally, I might prefer to have the bottom and center free from any menu clutter, so I might move that bottom bar to the top.. then again, having the top clear and being able to view the beautiful sky is nice... Maybe I'll cram everything into the corners... Hmm... anyway I look at it, I'm not that fond of staring at the fruit-snack icons above the lower bar. I wonder if I could ditch the icons for plain text, or shrink them a bit.

Most likely they will stay how you put them. It's very simple to save those type of personalized settings in your user profile, so my money says everything you customize in the interface will be saved for you next session. Posted Image

That's exciting that pugilist has MP! I think it would be cool if all classes have MP even if it's just a few. It looks like in the pugilist case, the HP to MP ratio is about 3:1. That's actually much more than I would have guessed since my Elvaan from FFXI practically had that ratio when he was playing a mage!

I'm not totally convinced that's Limsa Limosa in the background, but you could be right and those monsters could just be much wimpier than they look. The pugilist in this pic is wearing cloth armor and her weapons look very much of the rookie variety, so maybe these scary looking lizards are more bark than bite! I think that's cool because one complaint I had about FFXI was leveling to 20 before you could fight anything that wasn't a bunny or worm! Posted Image

Anyway, two thumbs up for the interface!! Posted Image

a FFXI but with a easy to use user interface THERE IS A GOD!

this is a very informative user interface you have everything you need displayed in the corners.

in terms of what is happening on screen i think this move is a move they did not mentioned this skill in the recent information release. this move is clearly a fire element based strike but the only elemental attack that was released for this class was earth render this is a clue that each melee class will have skills of each element.

with the pugilist using mp i can only assume that some skills (most likely those of elemental) have the added cost of mp. for all classes this is how i see points

HP is your endurance, how much pain you can endure before you black out.
TP is you momentum, the more you fight the more power skills you unleash in the heat of battle.
MP is element manipulation, through sheer will you force nature to bend to your will in one moment of willpower.

one issue i dont know about is if FFXIV will be one world or sectioned into zones. if it is one big world (like newer MMOs such as Wow) this picture could be a clue to the sheer size of the city with its highest towers still in view so far away.if it is zoned then this could be near the zoning area and it is to show the next zone is the outer reaches of the kingdom (for examples the zone in the shot is like La Theine Plateau and San d'Oria is not too far away)
Yoohohohohoo!

I recently played Star Trek Online and you can move around all the different boxes there too and they stuck. I'm sure FFXIV will have a stick option as well. My only request is that they add a default button that throws all the boxes back. On STO, I moved it by accident and for some reason the default option never set the boxes back. It annoyed me for the rest of the time I played the game.

I don't care what they do to the UI (although, it looks amazing right now. I love the transparency so that I can view the action better) what I want is FFXI's macros to continue in FFXIV. A hotbar, fine, I don't care. Just give me macros. Macros > Hotbar.

Old thread I know but -

One thing I hate with HUD is when the chat window is sat in the middle of the screen like the one in the first post.

For me chat windows should be in the bottom corners, skills bottom middle and characters top left and mini map top right :0

You can move the UI around, so place the chat where you want it to be. Posted Image
