Has anyone seen this show?

I'm not a huge fan of the current vampire craze with Twilight, Robert Pattinson and all of that; however, this show is pretty interesting and very well cast.

Vampires, shape shifters and other strange creatures/legends/phenomena?
Unexplained murders and mind control?
Engaging/intriguing characters?

What's not to like? :P

I watched both seasons within two weeks, so that must be saying something! Season three should be out in a few months I believe.

That being said, the show is not OMG amazing and it's definitely not for everyone. It is good/fun, though, and if any of what I have mentioned above sounds entertaining to you I suggest you give it a try.

If you wish to discuss plot/story details, however, please be sure to use SPOILER tags.

I'm not really a huge fan of the current vampire craze either, although I'm being forced to watch the first two Twilight movies with my girlfriend in her anticipation of the third movie (which I'm also being forced to go watch). :msnchuckle:

I did however enjoy watching True Blood; I've only seen the first series but I think it's great so far, very intersting story! Nothing compared the current craze going on, it posesses a completely different atmosphere. Good concept too, it has a much more realistic twist compared to Twlight, The Vampire Diaries, etc. I started watching it with my mother and thought, "This seems like a good show so far..." Until the first "scene" (you'll know what I mean, Eorzea) showed up and I was then thinking "Oh dear, should I really be watching this with my mother?!" :msnlaugh:

We continued watching the series together though and really enjoyed it. Something I wouldn't expect my mother to enjoy to say the least.

Definitely looking forward to watching the next two series!

I've even thought about starting a role play inspired by True Blood, though I'm not sure if that would be acceptable or not.

Any favorite episodes so far, Eorzea?

READ THE BOOKS! The show veers off the book and is a little less silly in parts. It's dark, sexy, intriguing!

The Southern Vampire Mysteries? I'm sure they're great, but this show is enough for me! I have come to like the characters/actors quite a bit.

I'm not sure about a favorite episode, MiniCloudz. I watched both seasons in less than two weeks, so everything has kind of blended together. I don't think I could comfortably watch this show with my mother, though! Too much blood, sex, etc.

You're more than welcome to start a RP inspired by True Blood! I want to keep this site clean, yes, but not to the point of ruining potentially fun/interesting/exciting activities.

As for Twilight, I have only seen the first movie so far. As bad as it was I still enjoyed it to an extent, but I'll save that for another topic.

Well, season 3 just started last week!

The first episode was pretty good; it basically established all of the subplots we can expect to see this season. I'm excited to see what will happen next! :D
No spoilers from the books, please!

I tried True Blood but turned it off after 30 mins.

Now I did enjoy Twilight - however, I think I am enjoying The Vampire Diaries more. The story is almost identical to Twilight (high school girl, vampire boy). Best character has to be the bad guy, though he turns kinda neutral half way though, which I was very pleased about!

The first Season of Vampire Diaries just finished, though is being repeated on ITV2.

I cannot in under any circumstance stand Twilight or any derivative. I grew up on Anne Rice, so to me vampires have to be deadly dangerous in a way that isn't cute, like at all.

Vampires Diaries sounds like it mixed Twilight and True Blood for TV fans. I don't want to watch it I'm afraid I'll like it and be shamed... (I say this with an amused smirk ^^) Kinda like when I was bored, pregnant and at home having just quit my job and watched Dawson's Creek and could NOT for the life of me stop watching it. I still can't believe I'm admitting loving that show! lol

But back to True Blood, I adore this show. In my book it's replacing Battlestar Galactica for intense fun and drama. So here are my notes for this season so far;

- Alcide the werewolf makes me wish I was a character on the show gladly soothe his wounded heart.. But seriously what a smoking, sweet character! So far he seems like the most human of the supernaturals on the show along with Sam.

- Speaking of Sam, dude you should have listened to your adoptive mother... I wonder how ugly this family thing will get. They seem like harmless trailer trash now, but maybe they are a lot more dangerous then that. Mrs Merlotte sure made them sound ominous. Also Sam needs a girl who won't reject him (Tara: I R confused!) or lure him to be a sacrifice.. I really hate that he's hung up on Sookie, I hate stories where every guy is hooked on the same girl, grrr.

- Tara, lady you just cannot get a clue! She was fun in season 1 but now she's convincing me she is really is quite stupid.

- Jason and Andy BFFs!! Oh that made me laugh! Like Andy says; "Now, that's just sad."
Jason is like a not very clever happy puppy that just wants to please someone. I wonder who that blonde woman is he caught a sight of at the drug dealer's place? I know a bit what's in the books so I have two suspicions.

- I love Jessica to bits, she seems to be like Tara was in season 1 a character you love or can't stand. I think she does her role as a baby vampire really well, she's clueless and still quite human and unable to control her new vampire urges. I don't know I see her as very compelling character struggling with things she doesn't understand and her Maker is a complete butt head imo.

- Speaking of which, Bill is not a nice vampire, he never was but he likes to think he is. He's got a killing streak who's enjoyed doing horrible things as a vampire with Lorena. Pay attention to the flashbacks, it's down right nasty. Of course Lorena is either partly to blame or completely responsible to having corrupted a good soul. Comparing his memories with Eric's and while Eric is painted as the selfish killer, however he's not depicted in the same light as Bill and Lorena who were murderers. It's nice to note that Eric's Maker was quite noble and Eric loved him, while Lorena is borderline insane and reviled by Bill.
Basically the deal with Bill is that he is being stripped of all his humanity while Eric has his nurtured or merely untouched, in Eric it's forgotten while in Bill it has been cut out of him.

- Pam I so love that woman, I really want to know how and why Eric turned her, I'm thinking it wasn't just a whim on his part. Her attitude is a nice comic relief and I love how she dresses like some soccer mom and keeps commenting on how she hates children. I loved her line; "I don’t know what it is about me that makes people think I want to hear their problems. Maybe I smile too much. Maybe I wear too much pink. But please remember, I can rip your throat out if I need to, and also know, that I am not a hooker. That was a long, long time ago"

- The Queen is growing on me, I really did not like her last season but hopefully we'll see more of her and get more familiar with her character.

- Sookie is just more of the same, she's played very well so I have nothing to complain about but she's also not growing yet. I hope we find out about her powers in a lot more detail soon. I loved this line:" I keep expecting him to come through the door and say, (low voice) SOOKEH."

Yeah, that made me laugh! I like it when Bill says it, too. It's just so funny for some reason.

From what you've said about Bill, do you not like his character? I think he really is a good person but that Lorena's influence takes over at times. He tries to do the right thing and almost every decision he makes is to protect Sookie.

As for Eric, he's a great character. I quite liked his master, too. Godric. I thought he was very well cast and would have liked to see him stay on the show for a while longer. -_-

Remember to use SPOILER tags if/when necessary. Your post didn't really have any spoilers, but if. ;)

Or maybe it's too hard to use spoiler tags all the time? Almost everything could be considered a spoiler by some people. Just the major things I guess (like if someone dies).

Well I don't hate Bill, I think he's a great character but he's not the mild mannered 'nice' vampire that he seemed to be at first. The more we find out about him to more clear it becomes he's got serious issues all coming from how harshly he was made. I think Bill Compton the human was a wonderful honest man, but the vampire was molded into something monstrous, which Bill tries to fight against some times or completely gives in other times.

I think that's the whole theme of the show and it's really ingrained in this character. That's not the show's doing that's how Charlaine Harris wrote him. ;)

I also think he's quite selfish, instead of taking care of his charge like he should, even though he didn't want to make Jessica, he's always off chasing Sookie. If we can judge him by how he treats Jess, he's not that dependable after all just single minded.

Yes, all very true. Though in Bill's defense, it seems there's always something keeping him from being able to help Jessica: being kidnapped, Sookie running off and getting into trouble, Eric making him jump through hoops, etc. ;)

On a side note, I love Lafayette. He is probably one of the best characters (especially in season 1).

Yeah Lafayette is the win! Posted Image I can't say anything more about Bill without bringing up the books so I'll just wait and see what happens, I did the last previews for the next 2 episodes on youtube though and it seems like Mr. Compton gets a bit more interesting. ;)

I like vampire stuff, my friends tell me True Blood is great, I watched the first like 15 minutes of the 1st episode and it seemed really corny. I suppose I should give it more of a chance but well see.

It really is great! Please give it more of a chance. Those 15 minutes actually hooked me in, but I suppose everyone has different preferences, yeah? ;)

The last few episodes have been pretty good, though Sookie's "dream" while unconscious was rather odd. Apparently it has something to do with the origin of her powers, yes?

Jessica has grown on me a bit.
