Square Enix has launched an official YouTube channel where they will be releasing various Final Fantasy XIV videos.

Check out the first video below:

Quote

In "Life in Eorzea" #1, Square Enix staff members give viewers a brief introduction to their characters and what they can do within the game. Unfortunately, it's all in Japanese, but here is what's going on:

First, we are introduced to Riekom, Julia and Aratam, our narrators. They are a Hyur, Lalafell and Roegadyn, respectively. They comment that the alpha test for Final Fantasy XIV is finally set to begin, and for today's video, they will give us a small tour. As the three characters stand over a balcony, the camera pans and they wonder what everyone thinks of this beautiful land.

In a store, they take a look around and marvel at the large amount of goods lined up on the shelves. You can see Riekom's character give an enthusiastic thumbs up. There's even a small aquarium to view, but even more exciting: "Chocobo!" the three narrators shout in unison.

"Many different people are working throughout the town," says Riekom as a Roegadyn pounds an ingot. They remark how an Elezen begins to cry as she cuts open an onion for her cooking. Some more scenes of characters whipping up food get Riekom even more excited. Then all three are pleasantly surprised to see a hamburg steak being fried up. Hamburg steak (hamburger meat served without the bun meatloaf style) is a very popular and common dish in Japan.

After the cooking tour is finished, Riekom then says she'll introduce everyone to some of the character emotes.

"Lalafell! How cute! It's dancing!" they exclaim.

The video finishes up with Riekom apologizing for only being able to show eager adventurers so little this first time around. But she continues to say we can look forward to seeing more parts of Eorzea in future videos!"

I'm at school and the wifi sucks so I have only watched the first few seconds. So far it has a very very FFXI esque style.

Totally amped for this game.

edit:

OHHHHH CHOCOBO!!

AND panic motion is back how nostalgic

Oh my gosh, so awesome! This steady stream of new info is unusual.. I really hope it continues. I can't wait to see more of this series. XD

Also, I would agree with Limsa Lominsa. Looks like a huge port town.

LOL, good words Tindiil.

The game really seems to be coming together and there's a high level of detail we can already see going into the world which is very exciting... As well as some nuggets from XI which will give us all happy memories. New Lalafell dance? Yes, please.

This video really shows a lot about how FF14 is going to be. I'm looking forward to it even more now.

Another thing I wish to add is that even though it is still Alpha, the town looks empty. Well this certainly fits the mold of other MMOs, I was hoping that towns would be more like Oblivion, where NPCs would have their own lives, and sleep at night! That way the world actually feels alive, even if you are the only PC in town.

Awesome video. It does look like Limsa Lominsa. I do wish to see more of the other towns.

Instead of recreating this topic, I merged the two existing topics, edited Quinn's post and removed Nestorm's initial post. It's what had to be done in order to get all posts into the same thread and at the same time format things to my liking.

Hopefully the two of you understand. I thank you very much for your initial posts while I was away.

I will post more thoughts/opinions later, but I must head out for now. I can't wait to really take a look at this later tonight.

Niiice, I can't wait to see more of these. It really puts you into the game, nice looking in game graphics to go with it too. I loved the little Lalafell dancing.

Thanks for your understanding. :D

This game is looking absolutely stunning. These graphics for a MMO? Amazing! There are still some portions lacking completed textures/etc., but as a whole things are really coming together beautifully.

I will try to capture some screenshots later on, but the video should be enough or now.

Wow.

OK, I took some screenshots of the video! Check them out below or in this article's original post. For future reference they can also be found in our Images section. ;)

In retrospect, I should have made them 1280x720 pixels. My bad! Next time.
