Apparently this discipline has been found in the Final Fantasy XIV Alpha Test's DAT files [source]. ;)

Perhaps speculations in this thread weren't too far off!

Well if it allows for the raising/breeding of chocobos then that would be a plus :P

If not, it may be like Beastmaster. I remember them saying they didn't want any pet classes, but perhaps SHP can charm, sleep, and pretty much just be pure crowd control for beast type monsters for a short period of time. They wouldn't have summonable pets like BST, but just the ability to charm them for the duration of the fight.

If shepherd is in the game I will be one especially if you can raise chocobos!

Good find, Eorzea!

Definitely interested in this class, sounds like a lot of fun. Hopefully we will be able to raise Chocobo/other animals or use class skills as a way to earn Gil.

Classes seem to be taking more of a realistic approach this time around which is nice to see. :)

A job like this would def make a few other jobs much more easy. Tanners would have places to get skins, chefs could readily obtain meat, weavers could make use of the fur, etc etc. Plus the very hopeful idea of raising chocobos.

Raising chocobos does sound like a fantastic idea, especially if you had to raise one for yourself to use. However, it worries me in the long run. A lot of people will do this to sell them and probably at ridicous prices that no one can afford (until later on).

Its like seeing someone selling a quest item on the AH (using WoW as an example) a lvl 20 quest item for several hundred gold.

Now, raising animals for their skin to leatherworkers, sheep for their wool to tailors, meat to cooks...hmm, I like the sound of that.

If no one can afford their prices then they won't be selling anything or getting any profit, either. Ridiculous prices wouldn't make any sense for either party. I don't think it would be an issue.

I think this would make sense as an additional class down the road. I don't see them adding classes for all the other disiplines and not adding anything for DoL. But there don't seem to be that many extra classes they could add, this could fill the gap.

I don't think they'd be able to harvest wool and meat and such though. At least not if those items drop off of monsters. Maybe they'd have an ability to get those materials easier from those types of monsters though. (That's just speculation).

It would be neat to see a character herding lizards or something for some tough lizard skin though...

So I'm sure you people of Limsa Lominsa have bought picks and such. But did you realize the NPC mentions a Shepherd's guild??? o_o this gatherer class would make sense since I don't think the Leatherworker has any real gathering counterpart (I havent exactly researched it but from I've used...) what do yall think? Is it a hidden message or just game world fluff?
The amount of fun you have with a slinky is proportional to the amount of stairs you have.
Given an escalator, slinkys will give you infinite fun!

I think that a lot of the subtle tidbits we're getting from NPCs are potential indicators of things to come.

I would have to agree. I don't quite think they would have NPC's talking about it if they will never have a sheperd's guild.
