For those of you with an interest in Japan, what is it that interests you? Is it merely because of its games, anime, manga and music, or does it go deeper than that?

Please share.

I can't speak firsthand, so here are some impressions I've gathered.

- It's a more respectful than the country I live in.
- .. more organized ..
- .. cleaner environment ..
- .. very little crime ..
- .. technologically superior ..
- .. healthier ..
- .. retains a rich heritage and culture ..
- .. not obsessed with religion ..

Of course I also loves games and enjoy the thought of a whole country with people more interested in things still deemed childish or strange in America (gaming, manga, etc), but it's not a paradise.

Still, other than the fact that I'm a foreigner, (hah, this could be a problem) I feel like I would fit in much better in Japan than in my home country.

Those are a lot of the same reasons I wanted to come here, Momotaru. All of your impressions are pretty spot on. Though I'm not entirely sure about it being technologically superior these days, their technology sure is overpriced! At least I feel it is. :-/

Should you ever come here long term (two years or more), there will undoubtedly be some small things that annoy you and/or cultural difference you can't quite understand/accept, but I imagine that would also be the case in just about any foreign country.
I will make a thread on these things at a later date.

The fact that you're a foreigner may get you some stares and (at times) unwanted attention, but you should fit in just fine. Or well enough, anyway. And there are always some other foreigners to be found should you need a friend or simply wish to converse in proper English.

I would love to visit Japan but I don't think I could overcome the culture shock if I decided to stay long term. My interest in Japan lies solely with Anime, Music, and Language. However, I can experience these things without moving to Japan and turning my entire way of life upside down. My friends however are a different story. They seem to have twisted their reality from anime and believe Japan is a utopia where all women have long and beautiful pink/purple hair, cherry blossoms are in full bloom all year round, and being a NEET will make your wildest dreams come true.

I like all of the crazy things about japan and the wacky things the japanese do like shaming a player by using Galka skinheads. That video was just wrong though.:msnfrustrated:

I just want to experience a different culture and Japan seems to be the perfect mix of differences and similarities. For instance, going to somewhere in Europe would not be so different to me.

and also, all the things you mentioned Eorzea play a part in me wanting to visit there lol.

but like Galactimus said, I do not think I'm ready to live there for a couple of years. I would just like to visit

I would like to go to Japan for most of the reasons already stated. I love culture, language and such. I'm not a huge anime fan or anything but I like some of it. ALL cultures interest me beside the American culture. I love going to the international section of airports just to see other cultures and hear the people speak and how they interact with eachother.
