Taking the focus off of the battle system for a while, Famitsu.com takes a stroll through the streets of Limsa Lominsa in Final Fantasy XIV's alpha test. 15 new images show off the beautiful streets and intricate city details, as well as some of the available guild shops found throughout.

Also known as "City of the Sea," Limsa Lominsa is built upon protruding rocks in the sea, its buildings connected by a variety of bridges. Large ships can be fittingly seen in the harbor.

Pavement (or perfectly square slabs of stone, rather) covers the streets. The city and its buildings have many levels which can be accessed via ramps, stairs and elevators allowing for a majestic view of both the skies above and seas below.

SHOPPING DISTRICT

There are a large number of shops throughout Limsa Lominsa, most of which can be found in a couple of long and narrow buildings to the east and west of the central part of the city ("East Hawkers' Alley" and "West Hawkers' Alley").

Here are some examples of the various guild shops that can be found (though the "Goldsmith" and "Carpenter" translations have yet to be 100% confirmed):

Alchemist Guild
Potions, Ethers and other recovery items.
Posted Image

Weaver Guild
Clothing/armor made of cloth.
Posted Image

Goldsmith Guild
Circlets, glasses, etc. containing stones/gems.
Posted Image

Carpenter Guild
Things made of wood: bows, staves, shields, etc.

You'll be happy to know that low-level equipment and accessories are available (as demonstrated in the pictures below):

Thanks for the post Eorzea.

I like how this city is looking. Never did play FF11 so was wondering which race will have this city as a starter or home city? or is it more like a capitol?

Any race can start in this city if they want. There will also be two other choices... Gridania and Ul'dah... but there isn't any information about them yet. :( http://www.beyondvan...city-states.php

Limsa Lominsa looks so nice. I'm pretty sure it's where I'll start...

Yeh, I'm thinking I'll start there too. I want to be close to the sea. :)

The city looks beautiful although, something is slightly off looking about the white rock faces. The cities are going to feel impossibly big I bet with seamless zones and whatnot.

Also that mask on the bottom looks great, any info if it is for crafting or just aesthetics?

Hmm, I'm not really sure if I like the look of this city or not. I like how the city is built upon the sea, but other than that I think it looks a little bland. Hopefully SE will pump more creativity in to it before the games release.

Not sure about the mask, Chros, but it does look nice!

I don't find Limsa Lominsa to be bland, but I suppose it could use a little more pizazz, yeah. Remember, too, that what we're seeing in these screenshots is only a small portion of what the city has to offer. The final version of the game will also have a lot more people running around, so that ought to liven things up a bit!

*squee* New screens! I don't know if anything FF can look bland, I guess it is a bit bare I am expecting the other two cities to have more character especially Gridania with all the trees. :)

Definitely. I quite enjoyed Windurst in Final Fantasy XI and I generally tend to like cities built in the forest (Eruyt Village in FFXII, for example!), so it's likely that once I actually install the game and get to the character creation screen that I'll choose Gridania as my home nation/city-state. ;)
