Alchemy
Bonecraft
Clothcraft
Cooking
Fishing
Goldsmithing
Leathercraft
Smithing
Woodworking

A nice variety, don't you think? What craft(s), if any, did you pursue in Final Fantasy XI? Did you enjoy the process, or did it feel more like a chore? Let's talk positives and negatives: what good points would you like to see carried over to FFXIV, and what bad points would you like to see either removed and/or corrected/altered/fixed?

I reached level 95 cooking before I quit FFXI. It was hard to get there, but I liked that. I liked that not just anyone had 95 cooking; it took time, gil and effort! The only thing that bothered me is that in order to pass some of the tests and level up you were often required to seek out extremely rare ingredients that were rarely ever for sale in the shops or auction house. As a result, you often had to wait awhile before being able to continue crafting again. When I was in the mood, the last thing I wanted to do was stop.
Please don't take that the wrong way! ;)

How about you?

Discuss!

I was a cook as well.

I loved the crystal system. I hope it comes back in some form.

So many fond memories of sitting in Windhurst.

Also I felt really business like making kabobs for profit. Getting +1s and +2s and stuff was a rush!

I think the crystal system was pretty cool. I like the idea of getting different crystals from different creatures, and the fact that they weren't too hard to come by.
I wouldn't mind it being a tad easier to acquire the other items needed for crafting.

Also, I think it would be a good idea to make any crafted weapons or armor unsellable after they have been equipped (like "soulbound" from WoW) to help crafters make $$$.

Scrap the old system completely and start over. The only thing I liked was the need for a crystal. I do like the idea of having crafted items bind on equip because as it was, there was no real reason to synth a majority of the popular items for the simple reason that alot of items were trading hands from buyer to buyer instead of crafter to buyer. All crafting gear did was water down an already full market. The only real incentive was to try for +1 items but even then you were still watering down the NQ market even more.

Hm.. My input is that crafting should be fun :)

It needs to be more interactive and interesting as opposed to a chore.

I took Blacksmithing(Lvl 97), Goldsmithing (Lvl 87), Cooking (Lvl 94) and Alchemy (Lvl 89) up past the 60 limit. Though as subcrafts I took the others to 60 as well depending on the character's main craft.

I really enjoyed the use of the crystals. Though I'd like to see that if the crystal system is allowed that they still drop from mobs even though you don't gain exp off them. I remember the occassional inflation of crystal prices though I do understand that its supply and demand lol. Overall minus the higher levels with items that were rare drops and you had to lvl off them I enjoyed the system in FFXI. *waits for the tomatoes to start flying at him* (>.>)

Crafting is way more interactive in FFXIV than it was in XI so I'm curious if anyone out there has figured out the trick to it? I felt like what I was doing was yeilding totally inconsistant results.

I agree with Dietroit. They need to give some kind of guidance at the start on what affects good outcomes. Right now it seems random. I do think that changing the time when you press your action (standard, rapid or bold synth) and which you choose matters, I'm just not sure how to tell. I had good luck yesterday with most attempts working, but today about 90% of my attempts (standard, rapid, bold) failed resulting in alot of failed crafts since the durability quickly went to zero.

Ona positive note, I do like that its more interactive, and I really like the animations that go along with crafting. (Much better than the simple animation in xi.)

I liked the fact that almost every item was usable in a craft to a certain extent. I was previously a cook and did not level too many other crafts as i joined the game late...and at that point it was just a race to level 75 >.>

However i plan on making Blacksmithing and Alchemy my main crafts ...and im sure mining and botany to go along with it. However my main discipline will be muskateer.....when it is released =)

This thread is over a year old and no longer relevant. ;)

Please use the individual subforums for each (crafting) class.
